    • More realistic, I would say. But the problem is that there are different realities in these matters.

      • so now that the UK won't support a US missile strike in Syria but France will, do we go back to calling freedom fries french fries, and fish & chips now become freedom & chips? or is it fish & freedom?

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

You also need to start mocking the monarchy, the stiff upper lip and boycott the pubs. But it makes me glad to see old friends from the revolutionary war back together.Nothing ain't like friendship

                • A US strike looks likely now lest US warnings to Iran on their nuke program lose force.

                  • Kerry's speech strong, well argued...bottom line...there will be action.

                    Won't wait for UN report.

I love how Obama had to march out Kerry to have someone who looks and sounds remotely presidential talk to the nation. Later in the day, Obama's own remarks galvanized like a limp dick. So many uh's and ahh's, and halting pauses. If he ordered coffee this way at Starbucks the barista would want to confirm twice. :slap:

Why the urge? After waiting for so long a week or few wont change much.

There's a sense that a delay diminishes the effect and increases the possibility that nothing will be done. That's what some of the media types say. That presupposes a strike is the right response. I think that begs the question. Why aren't other responses on the table?

                            • Even if the strike is the only solution (unlike Iran?) then why not wait till UN inspectors finish the job.

It might not be the (most) accurate report, but will still have the UN stamp on it.

Because the UN report will not identify who is responsible for the attack. The Secretary General has repeatedly said that.
