Global Anglo-Saxon Media Helps Manage Pakistan As A Terror State | Republic | Mar 05 2019

Attacks on the US the United Kingdom (UK) become geo-strategic. Attacks on India are regional. Patriotism in India is Hindu zealots. Patriotism in the US and UK is cute – you know, people get emotional when it comes to their countries. The only intelligent people in India are those who speak English. Indian intelligence agencies cannot be trusted and there is no organisation worth its name for national security. The CIA is gold standard and stop complaining about the wig. This is “we” the enlightened who will continue telling “you” the natives what you must think and do especially when it comes to protecting your borders.

Masood confirms the Indian attack on his camp but says his cadres were saved

In its statement on Sunday, Jaish said Azhar was alive and doing well. It also admitted that IAF had struck at its training centre in Balakot, but denied that it suffered any casualties. “India’s fighter jets, with Israeli guided missiles, attacked us but Allah’s angels diverted them and protected us,” Jaish said.

                    • Does Pulwama jeopardise Pakistan’s potential IMF deal? | ISAS | Feb 25 2019

Is it possible that Pakistan has scored an own-goal by allegedly sponsoring the 14 February 2019 terrorist attack on Indian security forces in Pulwama, Kashmir.

Arguably, Pakistan’s economic position is better than it was six months ago. The fall in global crude prices has helped it reduce the import bill while a 30 per cent depreciation of the currency has made its exports more competitive.

On the political side, before the Pulwama attack, Pakistan’s negotiating strength vis-à-vis the IMF seemed also to have been improving. The US is currently focused on securing a peace deal with the Taliban in order to leave Afghanistan and Pakistan’s support is crucial for concluding the deal. In return for that support, the US, as the dominant shareholder of the IMF, would have put its formidable weight behind a Fund bailout package for Pakistan. And Pakistan will be sure to use this new found leverage in its negotiations with the IMF.

In the wake of the Pulwama attack, Pakistan may have forfeited that support. The US has endorsed India’s right to self-defence, and in a clear signal that it is not willing to look the other way from Pakistan-based and possibly -supported terrorist group attacks, it has asserted that Pakistan must crack down on terrorists operating from its territory as per its obligations under United Nations resolutions.

Moreover, the FATF announcement on 22 February 2019 to keep Pakistan on the grey list for showing only limited progress in curbing money laundering and terrorism financing is bound to send a signal to FATF member countries of these political risks attached to bailing out Pakistan. The FATF decision was made despite a last minute effort by Pakistan to show action on curbing terrorism financing by reinstating bans on two Pakistan-based terrorist organisations and despite heavy lobbying by Pakistan of FATF member countries, especially the country that currently heads the FATF, the US.

Has Pakistan overplayed its hand? Will its worsening economic crisis and the deepening tensions with India in the wake of the Pulwama attack help it realise that the price to pay for sponsoring terrorism can be exceedingly high? How Pakistan responds to these questions will determine the chances for peace in the subcontinent.

                        • Looking at targets and responses over the years

Parliament attack - a million men get mobilised on the border and are kept there for ten months. No parliamentarians killed only a few security guards. Successfully foiled

Uri attack - 20 soldiers are killed resulting in a surgical strike across the border

Pulwama attack - 40 CRPF are killed resulting in air strikes

What do those three have in common, an attack on agents of the state results in the military getting deployed. Is it for reasons of morale ? if these are the guards then attacks on them have to responded to if want to motivate people to guard us.

                          Compare with attacks on civilians

1993 Bombay stock exchange bombing - nothing

2006 Bombay train bombing - nothing

                          26/11 - nothing

Those three attacks resulted in well over a hundred civilian deaths yet a retaliatory response wasn't forthcoming

I was surprised at the way tempers flared and as quick for just 40 cops getting whacked. We lost twice as many to Naxals in 2010

Just 40 cops sounds callous. But frankly i respond more to attacks on civvies than i do cops or soldiers. They signed on the dotted line and are able to defend themselves. Civvies otoh are defenseless and attacks on them more reprehensible. I've earlier advocated if these are attacks are to be made i'd rather see them on state agents than civvies.

Now as we've seen if the chance of retaliation is lower attacking civilians than state agents might the Paks switch to attacking civilians instead ? a replay of the 2005 - 26/11 era where attacks were all over India and primarily targeted civilians.

You'd think these days an attack on either civilians or state agents, with footprints traced back to Pakistan should guarantee a kinetic response. So that plan won't work.

Another way of looking at these attacks is kill ratios.

Uri - took 4 to kill twenty, 1:5

                          26/11 - took ten to kill 170, 1:17

Pulwama - took just one to kill 40, 1:40

From a kill ratio perspective Pulwama was twice as bad as 26/11 yet to my mind 26/11 felt worse and immediate.

Uri's kill ratio is low yet it still merited a response.

No, if Azhar can be declared dead before Mar 13 it saves China the trouble and placates India.

                            How likely is India-Pakistan nuclear war? | Fortune | Mar 06 2019

The pressure to declare the Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Azhar a global terrorist in the United Nations is immense, with the U.S., UK and China pushing for the case. But China vetoed a previous attempt in 2009. Will anything change this time?
I've been searching for news about trying to designate azhar as a terrorist from sources in 2009 and can't find any.

The escape route for Pakistan of course is to declare him dead before March 13 – the veto deadline. And save China the tough decision in the face of pressure – and pacify India.

And, ChristineF's previous article about this attack benefitting PM Modi......this video clears the air what she actually meant. I'm not convinced that the PA orchestrated the Pulwama attack because they wanted Modi to win so that they can show a more muscular India at their border and thereby keep control over illiterate abduls in Pak, but its correct the PA wanted the attention of them killing journalists, Pashtuns etc to go away by staging and executing the Pulwama attack.

Using various terrorist groups is Pak military's ORBAT.
