Sure, 67% wouldn't vote for the CDU or CSU. The two parties had a joint majority in parliament for exactly one year out of the 67 years since the Federal Republic was founded. And they had it during that one year because representatives of a monarchist-ultraconservative party previously in coalition with them converted after the CDU told them they wouldn't help them get their mandates again.

Support for Merkel has risen again btw. She's now scoring 1.4 on a scale of -5 to +5, after her worst result so far in April at 0.9 (she was on par with Left leader Gregor Gysi then). Ahead of her in support for May are:
    • Winfried Kretschmann (Greens, minister-president of Baden-Württemberg) at 2.2
    • Frank-Walter Steinmeier (SPD co-leader of the government coalition) at 1.9
    • Wolfgang Schäuble (one of the hawks within Merkel's CDU, current finance minister) at 1.6

Couple other interesting results of the latest Politbarometer poll round:
    • 49% of Germans support Merkel's refugee politics specifically (47% do not support them). Within Merkel's own CDU/CSU faction, support for her refugee politics is 69%.
    • 87% of Germans believe other EU members will not take in the number of refugees that they are due. 81% of Germans would support making any such countries pay for that.
    • 68% of Germans do not support the refugee pact with Turkey in which we have Greece deport their Syrians to Turkey.

Btw, the same polls showed that 90% of Germans want Clinton for next US president while 3% would support Trump.

    • Well considering all the weapons being found in mosques in EU , this seems like a fantastic idea ,,,,,,,NOT

A German city has decided to give away land worth €850,000 to Muslims for free so they can build mosques with minarets up to 65 feet high.
The city of Monheim am Rhein has announced that it will be handing over land for free for the construction of mosques to two separate Muslim associations.

Monheim mayor Daniel Zimmermann said that although the land is worth €850,000, he denied that it was a gift, Die Welt reports. He said that since the land could only be used for the construction of mosques it wasn’t an explicit gift to the two organisations. “There is a provision under certain conditions,” Mr. Zimmermann claimed.

There are already plans being drawn up for the new mosques in Monheim, and the city has expressed a condition that the minarets may not be over 65 feet in height. Further stipulations include the limitation of use of the land meaning that without the consent from the city the Islamic associations may not transfer the land to another party.

The Islamic groups must further sign an agreement that they do not allow extremist preachers who violate the German Constitution to speak at the mosques, though there is no mention of how this will be monitored. If the organisations fail to meet the requirements the land will be turned back over to the city.

One of the organisations taking part in the deal is the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB) who will be building their mosque in close proximity to both Catholic and Protestant churches. Mr. Zimmermann claims that the Islamic organisations have been “old friends” of the community since the 1980s.

The move is likely focused on a new German government initiative to create German mosques that are not influenced by foreign countries like Saudi Arabia or Turkey who often subscribe to a more radical and traditional form of Islam.

The two countries have been accused of funding radical preachers in mosques that they establish and financially support. One solution was proposed earlier this year to allow local mosques to tax their worshippers directly to avoid the need for foreign funding. So far the city of Monheim has said the organisations are funding construction of the mosques themselves.

Mosque construction is a hot button issue in Germany and has been the subject of protest by multiple groups including the anti-mass migration party Alternative for Germany (AfD).

AfD member Bjorn Hoecke, famous for daring to brandish a German flag on television, led a protest against the building of a mosque in Erfurt and has shown more enthusiasm for the anti-Islamisation organisation PEGIDA than AfD leader Frauke Petry.

Similarly in Austria, the hipster-right Identitarian youth movement planned to protest the building of a mosque in Graz, but after information of their protest was leaked to police the group used the opportunity to scale the roof of the pro-migrant Green Party instead.

This part isn't really true given that one of the two mosques is part of DITIB, i.e. sponsored by the Turkish government - DITIB pays the imam preaching there.

Both communities already operate mosques on their own real estate - as such it's not about building more mosques in the town. The intention is to basically move these to different places, with the sales proceeds from the real estate going towards constructing the new buildings, and to drag them out of obscure back alleys. The DITIB mosque currently has 500 members, the other - sponsored by local Moroccan-Germans - about 200.

The financial situation of the town - the reason for the "gift" - is somewhat ridiculous. The town is legally not allowed to keep more than one-third of its total owned assets as liquid finances. It runs into that barrier every single year due to having a 75 million Euro budget surplus on average since 2011 - said budget surplus generated by very low commercial taxation (even for Germany). The first thing they did to keep it below was to pay off all debts. They finished that in 2013. They then invested massively into municipal-run kindergartens and schools. They're buying a new event hall for 30 million pretty much from pocket money. To get rid of money they even handed out free beer to everyone at the last town festival.

For further context, in some German states (e.g. in Hamburg) it was quite common that the municipality would hand over real estate to the churches to build there, with treaties between church and states from the 1870s to 1890s still active and legally binding today.

Mosque construction is a hot button issue in Germany and has been the subject of protest by multiple groups including the anti-mass migration party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
Announcements and discussions of Monheim's plans had to take place under police protection, with groups like proNRW (which is a bit more to the right than AfD) protesting outside. Both CDU and SPD, i.e. the two federal government parties of Merkel's coalition, oppose the plans.

The 34-year-old mayor of the town is ruling with his own party since 2009. All other parties are considered completely marginal there, including CDU and SPD. He got 95% in the last mayorial election in 2014 (CDU and SPD did not even field candidates), his party holds 65% of seats in the city parliament.

AfD member Bjorn Hoecke, famous for daring to brandish a German flag on television
That stunt kinda got famous because he did it for no reason and with no explanation at all and mostly weirded people out. And because he was holding it upside down.

The gold-red-black flag - the upside down version of the German black-red-gold flag, and the one Höcke brandished - is commonly used by rightwing-extremist groups primarily from the Reichsdeutsche corner of things that basically consider the German Empire to continue with the Federal Republic as an illegal government. The more harmless guys of this movement are somewhat similar to US Sovereign Citizens.

Europe in crisis: Defiant Merkel says terror attacks won’t stop Germany welcoming refugees
            By Jordan Hunter - Jul 29, 2016 245

CHANCELLOR Angela Merkel has said Germany is facing a “major” threat from terrorism but that this should not stop refugees being welcomed to Europe.

The German leader, who cut short her summer holiday to speak after a string of Islamist attacks rocked the country, said the entire continent was being “ravaged” by terrorism.
She described recent attacks in Ansbach, Wurzburg and Munich as “horrifying and depressing” but insisted Germany would not turn its back on people fleeing the Middle East.

In the wake of the killings, Mrs Merkel said Germany now needed a better “early warning system” to spot radicalised Muslims among the newly-arrived migrants. ,,,,,,,,,,hahahahahahahahahaahahaha

She said the central government would “redouble its efforts” against the threat, increasing staff numbers and resources for security services.

A spate of attacks since July 18 has left 15 people dead – including four attackers – and dozens injured.
Two assailants, a Syrian asylum seeker and a refugee from either Pakistan or Afghanistan, had links to Islamist militancy, officials say. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,kato i thought you posted it was zero killed ??

The attacks have burst any illusions in Germany that the country is immune to attacks like those claimed by ISIS in neighbouring France.

Critics of Mrs Merkel say her refugee policy is at fault, after more than a million migrants entered Germany in the past year.

              • Police in the Hildesheim case is primarily investigating against unknown parties for giving out state secrets as previous plans for a raid against the target had been leaked to the press - that's why the raid had to occur so suddenly and with heavy force. The leak is suspected to be somewhere around the court that approved the original raid plan. In addition local press contacted the salafist group either by email or phone, thus warning them something was afoot.

The raid did not result in any arrests btw, and none were planned either. The raid was about securing physical evidence for the group supporting anti-constitutional concepts. The group has been under surveillance of the local domestic intelligence service for three years, and supposedly accounted for recruiting between 20 and 25% of all IS foreign fighters in Syria from the state of Lower Saxony and between 70 and 85% of those foreign fighters originating from the city of Hildesheim are supposedly members of the group.

Merkel MUST go! Germans plan ‘huge’ demonstration over leader’s open door asylum policy
                  By Jordan Hunter - Jul 30, 2016 356

GERMAN activists are planning to hold a “huge” protest in Berlin tomorrow against Angela Merkel’s open door asylum policy.

Police are preparing for crowds of around 5,000 people from across the country to gather in the capital city from 3pm, with counter-demonstrations by anti-fascist groups also expected. The march is being organised by a coalition of anti-immigrant groups in Germany, where fears have been stoked by a succession of terrorist attacks carried out by refugees.
Angela MerkelThe German leader is under pressure over her open door asylum policy

Swiss right-wing politician Ignaz BearthSwiss right-wing politician Ignaz Bearth will address the gathering

It has been sparked by Mrs Merkel’s refusal to alter her path on unlimited mass migration despite the atrocities, and has been quickly organised by mass movements online.Germans have been sharing a poster for the demonstration which shows a placard depicting Mrs Merkel dressed in a Burka next to its slogan “Merkel Must Go!”.
Supporters will hear from right-wing speakers from across the continent and are demanding that Mrs Merkel change course on immigration, introducing a cap on numbers and tough new security checks on asylum seekers.

Posting on Facebook, the Swiss right-wing politician Ignaz Bearth said he expected the protest to be “huge” and confirmed that he would be addressing the crowds.

Anti-migrant protesters in GermanyThere have been a number of recent anti-migrant protests in Germany

Anti-migrant protesters in CologneTensions have been growing in the country after a spate of terror attacks

In a post advertising the march Wir Dur Deutschland, one of the organisers, said that it wanted the event to be “peaceful” and added: “We can navigate this difficult path if we all just go together”.The group said that all weapons and alcohol were banned at the march as was any Nazi or far-right apparel, but added that flags of “Germany and all European countries” were welcome.
They told people to obey the police and added: “All participants must contribute to a peaceful and orderly event.”

Mrs Merkel has been savaged online since her surprise announcement that she would not alter Germany’s immigration policy even in the face of a growing threat from Islamist terrorism.

She was branded a “traitor” and accused of “creating terrorism” by furious Germans, who used the Merkel Must Go hashtag to register their disgust with her leadership.Critics also mocked her famous phrase ‘we can do it’ – which she made when she first threw Germany’s doors open and repeated one more as she publicly renewed that stance this week.
One user tweeted: “I suggest we make ‘we can do it’ the taboo phrase of the year.”

And another added: “It is unbelievable. We can make it? Mrs Merkel and Co – WE cannot make it!”

A third pointed to the heavy security surrounding the German leader, observing: “So easy for Merkel to repeat we can make it. She’s well protected. Make that awful woman resign.”

Meanwhile one exasperated German said: ”Whoever still says ‘we can make it’ after what’s happening in Germany right now, this person can’t be helped.”

Germany has been rocked by its bloodiest week in recent history with a succession of terror attacks – some of which were carried out by asylum seekers – stoking growing tensions over mass migration

                  • The rally is today, not tomorrow.

There's a liveblog (in German) with plenty of pictures for demonstrations in Berlin today - there's a couple of them going on right now, so might be a bit confusing if you can't read the captions.
                    http://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/li.../13947892.html

The guys with the flags in the top picture are those Merkel muss weg guys. Note prominent red rune-covered flag that looks suspiciously like outlawed Viking Youth in addition to two Operation Valkyrie flags.

As of one hour ago police counted 1350 participants in their group. Haven't seen any estimate for the counter-rally yet - last time (two months ago) they put 7500 up against 1800 right-wingers. Police officer numbers deployed should be somewhere in the 1500-2000 region again like last time.

                      • She's the only selected refugee living in Germany to compete - the ten members of the refugee olympic team were selected by the IOC. Half the team consists of South Sudanese who currently live in Kenya (all doing track), the others are an Ethiopian in Luxembourg (marathon), a Syrian in Belgium (also swimming) and two DR-Congolese in Brazil (both judo).

Yusra Mardini fled Syria (Damascus) in 2015, the other Syrian, Rami Anis, fled Syria (Aleppo) in 2011. The two Congolese judoka had sought asylum in Brazil after the 2013 world championship there in which they participated. The South Sudanese all fled to Kenya between 2002 and 2005 during the last years of the Second Sudanese Civil War, not during the current crisis going on since 2013.

The gates of Europe have been opened, by women. This is a war, but not war between Islam and West, it is not ideological and it is not religious. Its biological and the main threat comes from women and their drones aka Muslim men. Women want to reset the course of civilization and destroy everything that the western man have been building since the day one. Not the Muslim women, but European women. Women have no nationality nor they consider religion to be important, for them the main guiding principle is biology and nothing more.

What an observation. Once a wise man told me that without women we'd had no tradition or religion.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov
