What aircraft is this naval aviator flying?
I knew it was a Curtiss design, it just screamed "Curtiss!", but I had to look it up; Model Curtiss No. 2.

Your question Stitch, amazing how many different aircraft Curtis has made for the Navy.

      • This one should be fairly easy; name the aircraft and it's claim to fame:

Correct! Told you it would be easy . . . . yes, first all-jet flying wing, 3-1/2 years before the all-jet Northrop XB-49 flew. Only surviving example is at the Smithsonian's Paul E. Garber Restoration Facility awaiting restoration. Original plans called for production variants to have an armament consisting of two forward-firing Mk 108 30mm cannons in the wing roots.

            All yours, IOWA!

                    • A practice bomb, being wrapped in hemp would protect it.

This was found at No 16 Alkham Street and used a process developed by Hans Goldschmidt.

Incindiery bomb? Wrapping it in hemp would make sense, as it would burn more readily. Not sure about the process, but I assume it would involve two chemicals or substances that would ignite when they come in contact (like when they get dropped out of an airplane and hit the ground).
