      • Astralis,

Sitting Bull is submitting that the Gulf States did not seek U.S. permission for airstrikes conducted by their forces flying out of Egypt against Libya.

            • According to German news media, some 36 Turkish soldiers stationed at the Süleyman Shah mausoleum are currently surrounded by 1100 armed IS men.

The Süleyman Shah mausoleum is located about 30 Kilometers south of Ain-al-Arab/Kobane on the Turkish-Syrian border, and constitutes an extraterritorial property of the Turkish State. IS has been demanding that Turkey withdraw its soldiers since last march, and has now surrounded the premise and cut off supply routes. Turkey has publically stated that an attack on the premise would be regarded as an attack on Turkey and has brought a tank battalion into ready position 400m north of the border across from the contested town of Ain-Al-Arab (within 10 minutes drive of attacking IS lines).

The Turkish parliament will decide on Thursday on whether to send ground troops into Syria, with the army readying two brigades for the operation with a third as strategic reserve. Level of ambition for these troops would be to secure a zone stretching 20-30 km south of the border and including Ain-al-Arab.

Kurdish peshmerga in the area are mostly disdaining the possible Turkish intervention as a move to curtail independence movements. The move might also become interesting for NATO, since German, Dutch and US troops are stationed within 100-150 km of the contested area.

                • Nowadays Suleyman Sah mausoleum is very important to Turkish People because of media. before many did not even heard of it.

but since they are alerted now , he desperately needs a victory.

it will be VERY important for Erdogan to cover/censor any possible troop losses or (however unlikely) any defeats.

a little military victory, maybe a with little scenario which contains some Turkish Troops rescued by pkk maybe(?) is what he needs.

                  • YPG peshmerga would probably be better suited for Erdogan's aims than PKK.

the difference between peshmerga & pkk is blurry to my eyes.. there are many reports about peshmerga and pkk relations and their friendship

                      • The Peshmerga anti-tank platoon being trained by the German Army (at the Infantry School in Hammelburg, Bavaria) should finish their training and return to the field this weekend. This platoon will act as a cadre training four more platoons, which Germany is equipping with six Milan launchers incl. MIRO night-vision systems and 100 missiles each.

The Turkish parliament has passed the resolution regarding intervention in Syria and Iraq btw. The mandate is rather general, naming "terror groups" as possible targets, which would allow the army to engage PKK and affiliate groups as well.

                          • Troop deployments are reported towards Syrian border.

elements from 1st Army & Commando Brigades from Bolu & Kayseri are being positioned near the Syrian Border.

According newspaper Hurriyet, tanks numbered around 80-120 (seems they are mostly modernised M60's) tanks, 24 arty pieces (T-155's) and 36 Rocket arty units plus some attack helicopters (inc. T-129's) and many AFV's & IFV's are being deployed at the moment.

btw i dunno if M60's are best choices against ISIS? i think they should have many Russian AT rocket systems?

                            • Well, at least they're not sending the M48s we sold you around 20 years ago that we ourselves bought around 55 years ago... used, in some cases.

As for Russian AT rocket systems? Not that many. They probably have a handful launchers for HJ-8s, Kornets and HOTs spread around their entire AOR, along with probably one or two dozen Milan, Konkurs and Fagot - there's probably less than 100 active launchers for these with all factions in the Syrian Civil War, most of them in the hands of SAA and FSA. The primary opposition to be encountered would be equipped with RPG-7s, Yugoslav 90mm OSA, SPG-9 and similar lower-scale systems.

If by modernized you mean the Sabras.... Those are very capable tanks. Slow, loud, big profile but very well protected and well armed.
