Hi.
I found a statement by the late Donald M. Nicol in the Encyclopedia Britannica about Mehmed the Conqueror beginning to prepare to conquer Constantinople in 1449. I was wondering what source I might read, whether English, Turkish, Greek, German, or whatever, that would describe Mehmed's preparations of that year. I can't seem to find one.
I'm particularly looking for whatever connections there might be between his preparations and the ongoing debate in Byzantium over union with the papacy, or anything having to do with Demetrius Palaeologos. I've looked and looked, and have yet to find any source that Nicol might have based his statement upon.
Can anyone help me?
