  • Anxiety of people over pan India NRC stems not from the fact that illegals will be included but genuine people will be excluded. The pilot NRC implementation in Assam does not inspire confidence.

'No Grudge': IAF Veteran Left out from Final NRC Can't Believe He Failed Citizenship Test Thrice | News 18 | Sept 01 2019

Honorary flight lieutenant (retired) Chabindra Sarma from Biswanath Chariali in Assam failed to include himself in the list despite using the same Legacy Data that his parents and children registered with.
Soldier For 30 Years, Assam Man Arrested As Illegal Immigrant | NDTV | May 29 2019

This one really takes the cake !!

A retired soldier from Assam, who served the army for 30 years, has been declared a foreigner by the police under a law used to stop illegal migration from Bangladesh. Mohammad Sanaulla, 53, who served as a Subedar in the army till 2017 and fought terrorists in Kashmir and Manipur, was arrested today and sent to a detention centre.

Mohammad Sanaullah was commissioned as a Junior Commissioned Officer 2014 and made an Honorary Lieutenant. After his retirement in 2017, he was working as a Sub-Inspector of the Assam Border police -- which deals specifically with the detection of illegal migrants. The same unit has now accused him of being an illegal resident.

"We are shocked. If this can happen to a retired Indian army personnel... I appeal to PM Modi, he should see the reality of what is happening for NRC," said his son Shahid Akhtar. The family is now preparing for a legal battle to prove that he is Indian.
The high court released him since from the detention centre. But it just goes to show any one who gets termed illegal has to approach the courts to clear their name. Imagine this on a country wide basis. How many people would have to go through this hassle.

Both his parents names' are there in Assams' electoral rolls, his father is no more, but his name is missing. So every time he visits Assam, he has to bribe the Police so that he doesn't find his name in D voters list. I personally know he is an Indian. A Hindu. And a good human being. Wonder what's his case now, didn't talk to him since I left Bangalore.

Why doesn't he submit his papers and get on the electoral register ?

Electoral register and NRC are not the same. One can have his name on the electoral rolls and not on NRC. Plus he has his name in Bangalore Urban electoral list, I have(had) mine in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. Btw, his name was in D Voters list (I forgot), he bribed police so as not to take any action against him.

NRC was not active back then, 2008-2012'ish timeframe. Even legit citizens didn't find their name on the list, as of now. It's riddled with mistakes. My surname is typed incorrectly, I submitted for correction, still it's the same. Though, I'm sure he did it this time, else he'd be a Roma.

Genuine citizen bribing govt servants to treat him as a genuine citizen is asking for trouble. Tantamount to incriminating one self.

Incorrect spellings are rife all over the place. Some of the names i discovered doing a reverse directory search of people i knew was ridiculous. They hire illiterate people to enter data and when these idiots invariably make mistakes it ends up making people run all over the place. The moment you discover this you march into the office and demand the person who made this mistake be taken out back and shot !

Oh, and an MLA (genuine Indian) we have family terms with has also not found his place in NRC. Lol.

The first thought was to throw out aliens from the country. If that was so, then I welcome this move. I also support CAA. But then, the economy isn't doing well, and the opposition is up in arms. Why waste money on this, right now.

Look, I've been saying from the start that we need a pan-India NRC for it to be successful. BUT, learnings from Assam should be incorporated. No genuine citizens should be harrassed. This (pan-India NRC) needs serious thought before being implemented.

130 cr Indians will be hassled to catch 1 cr of illegals. Cost to benefit ?

Course that figure varies depending who you ask and the argument is made this way benefits will not go to illegals.

I'm reminded of the quote this govt cares more about illegals than citizens.

                              Nothing is wrong with CAA.

Assam thinks CAA after NRC is a problem. Things have gone quiet in Assam lately so some sort of deal has been worked out.

Would have been better if they bothered to run this by them before passing the bill ?

They're not going to throw anyone out. The people who are found out will be given work visas.

The Banglas do not accept there is a single illegal Bangla in India but if there are any they will take them back.

So we start this exercise ?

It is funny how in this whole episode the Paks aren't even in the picture. Don't think we have too many illegals from there.

I don't even know what to say. BJP is Congress in disguise when it comes to the economy?

Btw, India has many illegals from Pak, the Hindus who once having crossed the border never go back. Police harass them, and they live a non-existent life, day to day, mouth to mouth.

I had an argument one day with my dad, many months back about the excess fat in their department, which is SPWD (State PWD). I wondered aloud the necessity of 100 clerks in their office, work which can be done by 2 people and 2 desktops. I was yelling project management, and scrum, and triage meetings, and how I single-handedly can turn around their unit from a loss making pathetic tax-payers cesspool, into a profitable venture. I came to know, that they have desktops, 10 of those, but still have the 100+ clerks. I got a lecture on Socialism. That we are a big country (by population), and the Government has to take care of all it can, with our tax-payers money, else there'd be riots. Which is why there is still a craze among C rung MBA college graduates to apply for a peon's job in a Government office.

The more the laws - Government can go after anyone who they see as a threat. The more the laws - work gets done at a snail's pace, and bribe reaches top echelons of the power structure. It's a vicious cycle. In Hinduism, we call it State Karma.
