Sounding like a witch hunt for anyone the Pres doesn't like. Revoking the license of 21,000 private school teachers? That, to me, sounds like a blanket revocation or the list was drawn up earlier as in an enemies list.

He's starting to look like a mini stalin...
21000 teachers,
3000 judges
7500 uniforms
all from less than a 1000 plotters....
its an exercise in political quantum particles....

50,000! he's certainly making hay from this....
and this is the current purge count;
Turkish media announced that:
15,200 teachers and other education staff had been sacked
1,577 university deans were ordered to resign
8,777 interior ministry workers were dismissed
1,500 staff in the finance ministry had been fired
257 people working in the prime minister's office were sacked
Turkey's media regulation body on Tuesday also revoked the licences of 24 radio and TV channels accused of links to Mr Gulen.
The news came on top of the arrests of more than 6,000 military personal and the sackings of nearly 9,000 police officers. About 3,000 judges have also been suspended.Last edited by gf0012-aust; 20 Jul 16,, 09:35.

Already done,AFAIK.Because teachers can transmit knowledge via word of mouth.
It seems though that current purges are mainly vs gulenists.Kemalist officers are replacing the purged gulenists. Those who know don't speak

hm, the purge is getting to the extent that there will certainly be a political backlash to all this. wondering what the end-game is here. There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

Asty,
"...wondering what the end-game is here."
Minimally, it'd be a self-interested internal power grab. Those purged will be replaced by people loyal to Erdogan for their (likely) very nice jobs as military officers, educators, police officials, judges, etc. His base of influence within the Turkish body politic will be boldly expanded.
Ideologically, this will likely begin the process of overtly transforming Turkey from secularism into the Islamist camp. We've already strong hints of logistical/support relationships emerging between Al Qaida and the Turkish intelligence/SOF community looking to counter-balance ISIS influence within Syria-

Whether an existing mechanism exists to oust a NATO member, you can bet nobody in Europe or America is viewing Erdogan as a fellow-traveler. He's clearly steering Turkey away from the west.Last edited by S2; 20 Jul 16,, 15:26."This aggression will not stand, man!" Jeff Lebowski

Seems from the developments the last couple of days that this might be what happened.
Erdogan has been planning this purge for quite some time, perhaps the Original timing and pace would have been different but it was coming.
The foreign relations resets earlier were partly his settling of external accounts before moving on internal enemies.
The targets of the purge were also eyeing him but were divided on what to do. However, with erdogan's moves imminent the minority that wanted to do something were forced into moving hastily to preempt him, hence the badly planned and executed coup, sort of like a Western style shootout, writ large.
