  • Had Hillary been elected President she would have been happy to sell the nuke codes to the highest bidder. Anything for her own profit. The Democratic machine knew Hillary had major negatives but still pushed her as their candidate.

No one should be smug in victory or upset in defeat. The political waters are churning and this is what happens.

I'm happy we have another election behind us and the Republic is secure. Let's hope both sides work together.

No different than 8 years ago when Obama came into office, with both the house and senate under his wing.

people will get sick of Trump and repubs (either in 4 years or 8) and the cycle will repeat.

Until both parties are reformed and actually start working together, I don't see this cycle changing much.

          • Like Brexit a victory of opinion and false statements over facts that need to be addressed. Both candidates were awful but when given the choice between a realist liar and a lunatic who denies the existence the facts the loon won. A mass case of 'ostrich - ism'.

Well said. Very very well said.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.
“He was the most prodigious personification of all human inferiorities. He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

              • Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the first time since 1928 where the Republicans controlled the presidency, both houses and (soon) the Supreme Court, right?

It's going to be an interesting 4 years....

All the (admittedly shell-shocked) media pundits were saying this last night, without the reference to republican. I believe 2008-2010 had the Democrats control the Presidency, Senate and Congress.

                  • I am an optimist by default. The results were in a way a surprise to me, but not a shock. A friend of mine who is living in Canada, few weeks ago wrote that in this interconnected world, where all the information and many people are few clicks away from us, we choose to filter those who don't think like us and to not be shocked how good Trump will go trough this.

My optimistic side says that at least his winning speech was, well, presidential. Give the man a chance, he pissed a lot of people and noone expects anything good from him. At least, you can be positively surprised or say to yourself, well, I knew it. :)

Good luck Americans, you gonna need it, and so will the rest of us.

Not sure but I think the dems controlled both houses and the executive office early in Clinton's term as well.

Never have I seen one party control so much now that the Judicial branch will break the conservative way as well.

                      • You know there ia going to be finger pointings after this one.

So who gets the blame for this one?

                        Hilary? Obama?

I want to hear the board's Democrats on this.

                            2009-2010, but close enough.

Trump will get that Supreme Court pick, although if he goes too conservative the Republicans will need to use the nuclear option.

HRC will likely eat most of the blame because the Sanders folks were unhappy to begin with. Obama's a popular out-going President.

doesn't mean that much for her anymore because she won't be a political power. the real fight will be over the direction of the party and a completely new standard-bearer. Sanders is getting rather long in the tooth, I don't think it'll be him.

the question is whether or not Trump represents that pendulum swing to the right. to put it another way, it's likely that immigration and anti-free trade played the crucial role in turning Rust Belt Dems or independents off HRC. it's hard to argue that Trump's view is right wing orthodoxy.

to put it another way, I don't think it was Paul Ryan's policies the voters were supporting.

Almost the same as you except it was a vicious headache starting around 1900 made worse by a almost 1 3/4 hour drive to go 55 miles home. Now it has toned down some but not yet gone.

I have this deep visceral hatred of Trump that goes back to the late 70's. He was already showing his pompous egotistical self in New York. Most of all he showed he was a fake. I can't stand fakes and my opinion of him hasn't changed over the last 35 years. It isn't going to change now because he is the incoming President.

His campaign manager now says he has a mandate. Hmm, a mandate with 47.5% of the vote and the other 52.5% voting against you. Must be the new math. LBJ 61.1% and Goldwater 38.5%. Now that is a mandate.

The search for people in his administration is now centering around loyalists as the vetting includes all social media to eliminate anyone who made a critical remark about him. Not a great way to get capable people and certainly not a great way to insure a variety of opinions. This especially so for a man who says he doesn't read and will rely on others to do essentially his reading for him. National security summaries? God help us.

So what of his promises? TH talked about disappointment. Well good old Donald promised a beautiful wall. He promised Hillary in jail. He promised to ban Muslims. He promised to void NAFTA if he didn't get the re-negotiated deal he wants. TPP is dead which China will love. Oh, and there is health care for 20 million. His 47.5% want him to make good on all those no doubt. He might have been talk, since he is a fake, but his supporters don't know that.

Almost forgot. Jobs, what about jobs. Bring back manufacturing jobs to now old decaying plants in the Midwest to employ all those high school educated voters of his. Not gonna happen on any grand scale. Economic evolution can be cruel. All the past ones were as they upset the status quo. No one can stop such an evolution instead you must adapt or wither away. The adapt is where these people need help because no one is going to turn the clock back against the march of time.

In the end I can't wish him well. Given the fact that I despise this man I only hope he fails. It would mean a tough four years for America but then one must live with the consequences of their decisions. That is what I teach my son in that choices have consequences so try to make a smart choice. Live and learn...
