    As an art form your "impressionist" illustrations of the Slater's paint scheme on your newest mode of travel may benefit from smaller "cubes" ....
    just saying ;)... Nice job of this abstract art form.

      • Another update!

        Going to temporarily skip doing the move pictures for now; Some of what has been going on since we returned from the yards.

        July 5th/12th pictures; Emptying out one of the PODS, including help from a Boy Scout troop to stow the stuff in B2, rigging the new cargo net, met a WWII DD guy who survived being in shark infested waters by himself after his ship sunk, & the radio guys at work. - https://www.flickr.com/photos/962784...7645655160505/

        July 19th; Getting rid of the old cargo net, re attaching the handles to the accommodation ladder, & Tightening mooring lines. - https://www.flickr.com/photos/962784...7645369811637/

        August 4th; Thus the start of me doing a couple Mondays in addition to Saturdays (side note the 4th was my 19th birthday); Went down to the boat yard approx 1.5 miles downriver from the ship to see them lower the whaleboat back into the water & ride it back up to the ship. So i got a birthday whaleboat ride! Work on the new support for the aft gangway, even had a birthday cake! And working on more mooring line with Boats Haggart who just turned 86 on Aug 15th & with 92 year old Chief Clark! https://www.flickr.com/photos/962784...7646187091235/

          Group picture of the Monday gang at the end of lunch (I decided to head down for a few Mondays before the semester at college started on the 25th btw)



          To illustrate this for the SLATER SIGNALS "At 92 years old, Clark is still doing bench work, though he uses two canes to get aboard. He says that he really doesn’t need the second cane, he keeps it handy to beat Super Dave." So Gene USCG Korea 81 years old, Chris 87 USN WWII, 92 year old welder Chief Clark & 78 or 79 year old Earl US Army

            We started out the day by emptying out the last POD; Was full of boxes with financial info. It all went down into the reefer deck -



            Working on one of the mooring cables



            Continued work on the aft davit repair



            We got the sauna of Aft officers berthing forward of aft steering squared away



            There was a USS Buckley DE 51 plank owner who visited the ship

              Started out with a whaleboat ride; We did some training for two of the interns so we have additional people who are skilled in being the coxswain.



              Checking out a scuff from one of the tugboats from when we initially left the drydock itself. If you look at the full set of pictures you can see we did some quick touch up painting on it too.



              Watching Earl paint the new gangway supports



              We had another DE Plank owner come visit the ship, this time off of the USS Lloyd DE 209/ APD 63. We have a oral history of his on our website too for those interested in listing http://www.ussslater.org/collections...History_17.mp3

              At 89 he could still get into his old middle rack in the same equivalent location as in on his old ship -

              He was also able to make the climb all the way upto the flying Bridge & to one lookout chairs where one of his watches was back on his ship

                There was a bunch of junk on the river that got caught in front of the whaleboat & paint float -



                So, I was the one who went down to clear it up



                There was a peregrine falcon on the radar on the top of the mast that I was able to catch a picture of

                • Two final ones from the 23rd first..

                  Continued work on the aft davit repair



                  And Sheedy got his reefer deck all back together after the shipyard finally

                  We replaced the seawall safety lines...& in the process we made quite a mess...with me holding the mess -

                      Karl Herchenroder & I removing a section of piping from the #1 Ship's Service Diesel Generator EMD 8-268A in B-1 for use on the #3 Ship's Service Diesel Generator, an EMD 8-268A in B-3 now that we have a open sea chest there.



                      "Thomas Scian Karl and Earl Herchenroder cleaning up their pipe fittings in the machine shop. Can you tell Karl and Earl are identical twins?" Btw, Karl served in the Navy while Earl was in the Army.

                      Thank you & no problem, you're quite welcome!! I Honestly don't have a good idea about that..Since hey we could have always though of more things to add to the work list; work & projects never end ;)

                              So I guess this will take care of the issues you had with #3 (had to go back and see which one it was :red:)? Is #1 becoming a parts bin though ?

                              Very true, once you think you've got it all more crap comes up and there's never enough time to get it all done :slap:. Keep up the good work though!

                              • School Update & Sept 13, Annual Volunteer Dinner

                                So first off a update in regards to my college stuff for those interested; I was recommended to become the Student Trustee for my college & as of this past Wednesday the 17th I'm officially sworn in for being the Student Trustee.

                                Secondly tomorrow (Saturday Sept. 20th) I'm going to be picking up the uncle of my history professor from the 1st semester to bring to the ship. His uncle is WWII US Army, 99th Infantry, 394th Infantry Regiment Battle of the Bulge, Silver Star.

                                But anywho September 13th pictures - I spent most of the day in the void under the aft #3 gun chipping away at rust & lose paint so don't have many picutres form the day of the goings on's.

                                Soo the work on the Davit continued... But first a picture from Monday the 8th "Monday, September 8th. Chief Clark Farnsworth. 92 years old but he can still do a weld you can bet your life on."



                                Despite rain the work on the outboard side of the davit project continued -
