Cost of Iraq, Afghanistan tops $1 trillion
WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - The cost to U.S. taxpayers of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 has topped $1 trillion, and President Barack Obama is expected to request another $33 billion to fund more troops this year.

Over two-thirds of the money has been spent on the conflict in Iraq since 2003. This year is the first in which more funds are being spent in Afghanistan than Iraq, as the pace of U.S. military operations slows in Iraq and quickens in Afghanistan.

HOW MUCH HAS BEEN SPENT ALREADY?

The tally topped $1 trillion last month, when U.S. lawmakers approved the fiscal 2010 defense spending bill that included $128 billion to be spent on the two conflicts through Sept. 30. The trillion-dollar total includes war-related costs incurred by the State Department, like embassy security. ....

. and when the dust settles, China steps in with their investments intact. How they’ve managed to create a new silk route from the Gulf coast to Kashgar is a masterpiece of deception. They won’t be too concerned about buying protection for their transit pipeline, whatever tribe that might be. The best part is they’ve even persuaded America to pave the way for them in Xinjiang by having indigenous Uighars wrongly categorised as non combatants. Ironically, any long term solution for this region will likely involve mediation from SCO members, and China.

China need the resources. Why wouldn't China step in with investments ? And these investments are risky.
