Erm, he did mention that it was VE day and not VJ day.

When I think of VE Day I always come back to the photo, I think from Life magazine, of some soldiers from the 77th ID on Okinawa, in their ponchos hearing the announcement over the radio in their jeep. The looks on their faces seemed to say..."Yeah, so what?"

Actually, the dejure final end of world war 2 is in the 1950s, when the occupation of Japan was ended and a Peace Treaty was signed between His Majesty's Government and that of United States.
