May 8, 1945 is the end of the Europe theatre of WWII when Germany surrendered. The final end of WWII, when the Japanese Emperor announced Japan's surrender on Aug 15, 1945.

Erm, he did mention that it was VE day and not VJ day.

Fine. I did not say he was wrong.

To the world, what matters is the final end of WWII.

If you had a brother fighting in Germany, would the ending of hostilities in ETO matter to you or the final end of WWII? :)

Anyways, not a thread for debating.

            RIP

The act of capitulation of Germany was signed on May 8, 1945 10:43 PM Berlin time, that was 9th May 0:43 AM Moscow time.

Tomorrow will be the Victory parade on Red Square.

When I think of VE Day I always come back to the photo, I think from Life magazine, of some soldiers from the 77th ID on Okinawa, in their ponchos hearing the announcement over the radio in their jeep. The looks on their faces seemed to say..."Yeah, so what?"

All that said it is a great day to commemorate.

Actually, the dejure final end of world war 2 is in the 1950s, when the occupation of Japan was ended and a Peace Treaty was signed between His Majesty's Government and that of United States.
