This article predicts that Iran will no longer export oil by 2015. It is based off of increasing domestic consumption and decreasing output due to lack of maintaining capitalization of their oil fields.

CSIS Report-Iran, Oil, and the Strait of Hormuz (Cordesman)
http://www.csis.org/media/csis/pubs/...oil_hormuz.pdf
Cordesman's contention that Iran could not close the straits for more than a couple of days to two weeks despite surging their forces and incurring massive attrition. Short and very good read. Five days old."This aggression will not stand, man!" Jeff Lebowski

I did my MA thesis on Iranian capability to shut the hormuz. I came to the same conclusion as Cordesmann. Nothing has changed since I did the paper and would suggest that Iran has got nothing but relatively weaker in the mean time.Setting the UK and Global Defence Procurement Agenda
