China decides to invade Russia for it's resources. Would China succeed or be pushed back by the Russians? What roles would other countries play in the region and beyond?

So much on this depends on how total the warfare would become. If it stays conventional and China isn't entirely stupid with its tactics the PRC would win. While the Russia has more advanced weapons, the vast majority of the armaments they have in widespread use are 2 or 3 generations old and often times in a questionable state of readiness. The PRC has its top of the line stuff either about half a generation to a whole generation behind the top russian equipment but the vast majority of its weapons are adapted russian tech or licensed russian tech 2 or 3 generations old. The PRC has alot more of it however.

If NBC weapons start getting involved short of total annilation for one side or another or likely both russia wins. Most N or C weapons are fairly dependant on population density and B weapons are aided in their transmission by it. They harm Russia especially the relatively unpopulated east where most of the fighting would be alot less than China. They also are very good at negating chinas numerical advantage. Both countries however have arsenals capable of totally destroying the other however this total warfare has no advantage for either.

In very limited foray warfare if this were to become open regular and more hostile than it currently is even if no territory gains are made the PRC wins.

right at this very point china dont stand a chance.
some black jack and backfires can finish the whole building boom of china's beijing within a night.
not to forget the deadly akula 2's,flankers,fulcrums.

if pakistan joins china and invades india , india will join in too then its 150% game over for china-pak provided they dont play with nukes.
no one will dare to play with nukes with russia and the US.

if china-russia war happens 10 years after clearly russia wins with its 5th generation aircraft party joint ventured with india and with tis new class of nuke submarines china is a no match for russia right now.

That is not true. Russia's nuclear inventory is significantly superior to that of China's... and when they get their first strike in not much of China's deterrent (or population for that matter) will be left.

Russia will win, either they just nuke the chinese to death, China is very dence populated (I think that is the word) so some well targeted nukes can really cause havoc.

Or else the Russian can use the famous "Scorched land" tactic, I doubt that the chinese forces are so well equiped so they better retreat... or else they will propobly suffer the same fate as the germans, Napoleon and the swedes ()

But if we count in allies and such then I don´t know, but if it´s onlöy between Russia and China then Russia wins.

Also, wouldnt the EU join Russia, cos of the Gas and OIl deals and exports could be threatened, then the USA would joiun worrying about another world war and try and stop it as soon as possible with maximum damage to there future rivals, CHINA.

nuclear wepons will be used and we know that means Russia will win in a nuclear exchange with China given that China has not stolen AGM 129's or JASSM's or have MARV's on some missiles.

To summarize;

If a limited war (if there is such a thing), the Chinese may be able to make an initial incursion, plant a flag, and then run straight back into China before the Russians shipped their armies from Europe.

There's only about 4-5 months out of the year that you can conduct combat operations. The rest of the time, it's either too muddy or way too cold. And out of those 4-5 months, there's only two when the bugs don't eat you alive.

The Chinese have an estimated 200 nuclear warheads. The Russians are allowed 2000 operational warheads by treaty. However, they have upwards of 10,000 warheads in component form that is not cover by treaty.

There's only two Chinese armies that are relatively modern by world standards, the 38th and 39th Group Armies. However, the 1st Moscow and the 16 Guards would make mince meat out of them.
