When a battleship has a worn out gun barrel replaced, what happens to the old one? Do they somehow sleeve it? I dug around for quite some time now but can't find any info on that.

In most cases you will find, the gun liner is removed and replaced that is when they were still in service. The gun is reassembled and tested at facilities like Dalhgren. There were still gun barrels at Philadelphia and other places up until the reactivation in the early 1980's. Many were scrapped and cut up after they were removed from service however there are still a few around and Dalhgran still has quite a collection and some decorating the outside of museums.Fortitude.....The strength to persist...The courage to endure.
