Well Done Will Smith, well done indeed!

Today's comedians don't hold a candle to the savagery of Bob Hope and Johnny Carson Days. Just google Dean Martin's Celebrety Roast on Youtube. The entire show wouldn't be allowed today with the racist/homophobic/class/barefoot-and-pregnant jokes flying left, right, and centre and the targets, ranging from Ronald Reagan to John Wayne to Sammy Davis Jr to Richard Pryor to Don Rickells were trying to out-insult each other whether they were the receiving end or not.

And I was laughing my ass off.

I watched many of those Friars Roasts as they took place back in the day. I've watched many recently on Youtube. The one common denominator through all of them is that family was pretty much off limits. In fact one might wonder if Bob Hope were even married as he never mentioned his wife much less was she seen. The only comedian who consistently talked about his wife was of course Dangerfield. As far as those men back then from Carson, to Hope, to Martin, to Lawford, to Bishop, to Davis, Pryor, Brooks and Rickles, et al, they all pretty much knew each other. OTOH Rock and Smith are not friends whatsoever and here both were wrong. Smith for slapping him and Rock for extremely poor taste and judgment given his provocateur status.

Evidently Rock & Smith both have a history where they dislike each other.

Regardless, the whole sordid mess should be relegated to the dustbin of history.
