Statquo and OOE Club: Canadian Politics

Canada is in talks with the Trump Admin to be included in the Golden Dome defence. What does this mean?

Back in the Cold War days, the destruction of 10 cities (I ain't going to list them) would effectively mean the end of Canada. To have a minimal defence surivalibility, means 90 interceptors (3 interceptors per warhead, 3 warheads per city) Canada must pay for

... or Canada just want to detect the incoming barrage and warn its citizens ... meaning zero interceptors Canada would pay for.

The only details I've seem say he wants a nationwide defense screen in place before he leaves office (so three and half years from now) but there's absolutely no details yet about how many ICBMs or hyper-sonic missiles this 'shield' is supposed to be able to intercept. The price tag meanwhile is apparently mind boggling! I can only imagine how rapidly this entire program is going to spiral out of control!

The cost for Apollo, in today's money, was 270 billion. Dummy Trump, and this is not his original idea as someone pitched it to him, says this will be 175 billion in today's money. Hopefully Trumps expiration date coincides this plans expiration date.

I can't recall a single US defense contract of comparable size and complexity ever being delivered within four years and on budget in my lifetime! I could be wrong of course, maybe there is one and someone else here can name it but I sure as hell can't.

The answer would be none if we talk from the 60s onward.

First we have this: https://www.defense.gov/news/news-s...e/4130310/dod-to-cut-580-million-in-spending/

Then we have that it is complex in scope, there will be changing requirements, changes in technology, a complex budget that will go through continuing resolutions like all these projects do. So let's give it a decade at the earliest. That is if it can get past the 2028 election.

Hell, if I were Canada, I wouldn't take part at all. How many people around the world think poorly of Canada? Now how many people around the world think poorly of the United States particularly now? At this point in time I see no reason why Canada would attach their horse to the U.S. wagon and now make themselves a target. This is low profile time at a distance especially with Trumps lousy attitude.

The detection aspects of this project is well worth the money. At this point, because of the investments in NORAD, the US is able to track every every drug carrying Cessna flying into the US. We've already seen NORAD failures. Chinese weather balloons.

Believe it or not, we are already a target. We are both a NORAD and a NATO ally. You want to see how fast NORAD can switch to Cheyenne Mountain and then to CFB Alberta?
