Putin says Russia to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus

The question does arise: as to why?
Are there some tactical or strategic reasons for moving nukes from the Motherland into Belarus, weapons that can’t be used?
Weapons that if they were used would mean that we all would be fucked!!!!
Russia did try a similar gambit early in the war, when they announced that they “reluctantly” had been forced to station missiles in Kaliningrad.
No big surprise there, as the silos had already been built!!!

There is no military advantage for Russia by doing so. Worse, it ostensibly places a Russian strategic asset in a vulnerable near-state.

That, however, may be the intent. Any threat to the Lukashenko regime will be met by Russian intervention to secure their assets. Most specifically, any INTERNAL threat. There will no color revolution in Belarus before its full integration into the Russian state...

...which is right around the corner. Guess we really can't call those guys a "non-NATO" ally nor does their army possess the spine to fight Russia. What might be REALLY scary is a Russian-occupied/dominated Belarus. The border with Poland would make the cold war seem like a playground. There's real hatred there. Mutual enmity of the first order.

It shows he has an ally who can do something for him. Something being anything that shows physical support of Russia. I am surprised he didn't try this with Iran or Venezuela

Couple that together with whatever border that will arise,
when Ukraine and Russia hammer out some kind’a cease-fire or peace or whatever!

Could also be a feint, designed to be nuclear strikes magnets. NATO has zero reports of such movements and most interestingly, announced that we're not going to change our posture as a result of this announcement. Putin said he already moved nukes into Belarus but NATO has not reported any such movement and our response is ho-hum to say the least about this development.

Could it be sir, that the NATO war-planners already had taken Russian nukes in Belarus into their contingency planning?
That the Russian announcement simply moved the probability up a notch?

Well Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has just upped the ante, verbally, by saying there could be placement of strategic nuclear weapons in his country to defend against a so called possible invasion through Poland. More rattling...

TALLINN, Estonia -- Russian strategic nuclear weapons might be deployed to Belarus along with part of Russia's tactical nuclear arsenal, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Friday, ramping up his rhetoric amid tensions with the West over the Kremlin's war in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last week that his country plans to deploy tactical, comparatively short-range and small-yield nuclear weapons in Belarus.

The strategic nuclear weapons such as missile-borne warheads that Lukashenko mentioned during his state-of-the nation address would pose an even greater threat, if Moscow moves them to the territory of its neighbor and ally.

Belarus was a staging ground for Russian troops to launch their invasion of Ukraine a little over 13 months ago. Lukashenko, in office since 1994, delivered his annual address amid escalating tensions over the conflict in Ukraine.

Both he and Putin have alleged that Western powers want to ruin Russia and Belarus.

“Putin and I will decide and introduce here, if necessary, strategic weapons, and they must understand this, the scoundrels abroad, who today are trying to blow us up from inside and outside," the Belarusian leader said. "We will protect our sovereignty and independence by any means necessary, including through the nuclear arsenal.”

While Putin emphasized that Russia will retain control over the tactical nuclear weapons stationed in Belarus, Lukashenko charged that he also will have a say.

“Don’t say we will just be looking after them, and these are not our weapons," he said. "These are our weapons and they will contribute to ensuring sovereignty and independence.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday denounced Putin's plan to deploy tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus as a reflection of Russia's battlefield setbacks and its increasing global isolation. Zelenskyy argued that it also means Lukashenko has yielded completely to Moscow's control, adding: "I think he no longer decides which weapons are located on his territory.”

Putin has said that construction of storage facilities for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus will be completed by July 1 and added that Russia has helped modernize Belarusian warplanes to make them capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
