ICE Killings in Minneapolis

Here's a video of ICE at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, arresting teachers, and even firing a tear gas grenade after a 14 or 15-year old threw a snowball. This incident took place on Jan 7th just hours after the killing of Renee Good, about 3 miles away. I don't know why felt they had the need to be at Roosevelt High School. Minneapolis canceled classes Jan 8-9 and offered remote classes to any students through Feb 12.

Doesn’t this all remind us of the Fugitive Slave Act. Those agents went across Northern America and Canada disappearing POC .

I can hear car horns and whistles from my window... must be an ICE operation occurring nearby.

Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the State of Minnesota filed a lawsuit against the federal government over ICE excesses during the recent "surge":

Ellison says Minnesota suing feds to end ICE ‘invasion,’ students continue to protest

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison says he’s filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security “to end the unprecedented surge of DHS agents into the state and declare it unconstitutional and unlawful.”

In a statement, Ellison said he’s also seeking a temporary restraining order, citing the immediate harm the state and cities are facing.

The state of Illinois on Monday filed a similar lawsuit.

Speaking to reporters Monday, Ellison said the ICE surge is essentially a “federal invasion of the Twin Cities. This has to stop.”

He described ICE agents as “terrorizing Minnesota with widespread unlawful conduct,” adding that “many of the people DHS is arresting in Minnesota don’t have a criminal record.”

ICE does have a “statutory responsibility to do a certain job,” Ellison said. “Our argument is they are exceeding that dramatically in unconstitutional ways. They have to operate within the law and the Constitution.”

Minnesota, he added, is being targeted by the federal government because of politics and that the state is “being persecuted because of our political views.”

Six Minnesota prosecutors resign amide pressure from Justice/Admin to focus on Renee Good, her widow, and others involved in the protest that day. Justice also says nothing warrants looking into what the ICE agent did.

I smell a cover up in the making.

Just for clarification, these were not state prosecutors - they were federal prosecutors from the US Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. Meaning they were Trump appointees.

Joseph Thompson, the US Attorney for the District of Minnesota, was the lead prosecutor on the Feeding our Future fraud cases, and also secured the indictment of Vance Boelter, who killed the former speaker of the Minnesota House, Melissa Hortman, and her husband, and also shot a state senator and his wife.

The latest: DOJ appealing judge’s order limiting federal agents’ actions against protesters

The U.S. Department of Justice filed notice Monday that it’s appealing a judge’s order setting limits on federal agents’ actions against protesters in Minnesota.

U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez in a ruling last Friday ordered federal agents involved in the immigration crackdown in Minnesota to not detain or arrest protesters or observers unless there’s reasonable suspicion or probable cause of a crime, or unless they obstruct the officers.

The temporary order also bars agents from using nonlethal munitions on peaceful protesters, and bars them from stopping or detaining drivers who follow ICE to monitor operations if they are not interfering with those agents.

In Monday’s filing in response to Menendez’s ruling, the DOJ said it’s appealing the order to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. It provided no other details. For now, the judge’s order remains in effect.

The filings are part of a lawsuit filed by six Minnesotans who sued the Department of Homeland Security after they were detained or arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota for protesting or observing. They claim ICE’s actions were retaliatory and affected their constitutional rights to free speech and assembly.

A man was gunned down by ICE on 26th and Nicollet this morning around 9am. The Minneapolis police chief has stated that he was a white, 37 year-old male US citizen with no criminal history, just traffic/parking tickets, and who had a gun permit and was lawfully carrying a firearm.

What this looks like to me, is this was an unlawful attempt to detain a US citizen who had committed no crime, who was unlawfully assaulted and battered by ICE agents, and in the process of this unlawful assault, battery, and detention, a legally holstered, unbrandished firearm was seen on his person, two ICE agents panicked, and shot him to death.

How many more have to be gunned down before Trump's cult realize that it could easily be them next?

It looks even worse in the video taken by the woman in the pink jacket (she is seen in the first video)

The man shot to death in Minneapolis has been identified. His name was Alex Pretti, a resident of Minneapolis, originally from Green Bay. He was an ICU (intensive care unit) nurse at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, and a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

A longer video of the ICE killing of Alex Pretti. This video shows more of what transpired before.

I am not even sure anymore they saw the lawfully holstered gun he had on his person, and only found it post-mortem, as it looks like an ICE agent carelessly discharged a round from his service pistol, after which two other ICE agents then proceed to shoot Alex Pretti to death.

My takeaway:
  • it was not illegal for Alex Pretti to have a lawfully holstered pistol on his person
  • he did not brandish it
  • he did not commit a crime
  • he was being illegally assaulted, battered, and unlawfully detained by ICE agents
  • the two ICE agents shooting him was in response to an accidental discharge from another ICE agent's service pistol with the safety off
  • they did not know he was lawfully holstering a gun until they searched his body after his death

Having watched the video more closely.... it's the ICE agent walking away from the pile with Alex Pretti's gun who fires a shot... from Alex Pretti's gun. The agent seized it from Alex Pretti's holster and fires a round at the pavement. Immediately thereafter, they shoot Alex Pretti ten times.

The State has to go to Federal Court ASAP requesting an order that Federal Authorities launch a free and independent Federal investigation into both recent killings and ordering ICE full co-operation. He'll an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court should be in the offing as well. The current situation is unconscionable.

At the very first time I saw the first video I noticed the woman in pink in the background. I also knew her view was going to be damning as all could be seen right down to the subject pistol whipped three times.

This video on CNN is with another person who saw the whole thing from a donut shop with the same view as the woman in pink. He gets quite emotional about what he saw happen.

My faith in the executive branch being held accountable by something so trivial to them as the "courts" has never been lower. Until Congress can get its collective head out of its ass, I'm afraid we are rapidly approaching a point of no return.

Alas my faith in the ability of Congress to 'get it's collective head out of it's ass' especially based on recent experience? Is even less than the odds of a legal 'Hail Mary Pass' to the Supreme Court succeeding. Logic would suggest that even a conservative bench like the current incumbents would (you'd think) have to be concerned by recent events in Minneapolis.
