  • Is their any records of what was removed from the USS Massachusetts BB 59 for the re activation of the Iowa Class BBs during the 1980s? I was always curious and most of the people involved in the museum seam either reluctant or have really no knowledge of what was removed.
Thanks for your postings on the Spruance class sinkex's. As a former Spruance sailor (Stump DD 978) it was sad to see them go, but I understand that they haven't stood up to time as well as some of the older ships. One question I have always had though, and had various answers on, is why was there a hump in the 03 passageway going aft from CIC?
Thanks to all of you. However, I have not been able to answer all questions or reply to all emails. I have 4 other screen names I have to work on for two other people besides myself. That's for tracking a number of credit card accounts and bank accounts as well as other business such as providing a list of all former LBNSY employees who have died since the shipyard was formerly closed (on an average of 23 per year and this year we are already up to 20 since our last reunion picnic).

And that's just in this overcrowded back room (former 1-car garage). Then there are the household chores, train club meetings, American Legion meetings, etc.

Then I have wasted a lot of time looking for an interpretation of the word "RETIREMENT' for a person like me.
    Good Evening Mr. Landgraff,

I've just started the second read of your book. As a lay historian I find the second read of a book the most enjoyable and yours is no less the experience. A very enjoyable venture are the sidebars recited on this website addressing passages in your book. As an example ... your comment on Mr. Bob Riha and his superior work improving the mast of ships over the design of other shipyards.

In my opinion your book will become more important to historians as the passages address events that will be lost with fading memories. Thank you for taking the time to share your files and experiences with future generations. Respectfully submitted, Frank
Richard, working with him the last couple days, he seems to be a very knowlegable gentleman, and I'm glad that I met him and have had the chance to talk with him. I'm looking forward to receiving your book and reading it, thanks for making it and I hope that the Iowa is able to be homeported in Long Beach since Mare Island is a no go..

Hi Richard, just talking with Ray Covarrubias is onboard the Halsey and I've really enjoyed reading your information about the Iowa's.. he said that he knew you, so just had to come online here (onboard the ship) to make sure who you were... Thanks for your wealth of knowledge and take care..

Hello, salty has been trying to get me on here for awhile, I keep forgetting hope yo're up for some silly Battleship questions, sometimes miss the old battleship page.
I didn't know you did. But I don't hit all the postings on the board anyway. By the way, I just LOVED the Heart Attack Grill. Forwarded it to several friends already.
Looks like these old messages can be re-edited whenever.... I only forward about 1% of the email jokes/pictures I receive. Some are pretty good.

What do you think of so called "moderators" on this board being involved in discussions and then either closing threads or banning contributors that they disagree with?
I have analysed a dozen threads and contacted many 'banned' former contributors and the story is always the same. Three 'moderators'--who may even be the same person just 'ban' anyone who they want to disagree with. WTFAT?
The suspects claim vast military experience, language skills and detailed historical knowledge: yet an analysis of their posts indicates that either English is not their first language or they have limited education. Their claims to military experience do not gel with their published nationality or age. I suspect that these people are spotty geek wanabees trying to live a second life.
    Any comment?
FYI Worldaffairsboard gets less than 2000 unique hits per week and generates less that US$18 per day. A similar site WW2 History earns US$ 25,000 per day.
I just forward about 1% of the email novelties I get.

I was going to post some of the pictures I have of the stray kittens that live in my back yard. They grow up and move on and then another set shows up. I don't really care for the cats and kittens, but don't want to harm them even when they kill my begonias and pepper plants by sitting on them.
