I believe India are still rated No 1? Not checked. Nor do I think 250 for 9 is an absolute disaster. Wish I had the leisure to watch the full series as that is only way to truly appreciate Test cricket. I reckon a drawn series is most likely.

Cricket boards are not rated. It's the teams that are rated.
Test - India #1, England #2 as of now.
ODI - England #1, India #2 as of now, India might fall further.
T20I - Pak #1, India #2

And India hasn't exactly been winning in Australia and England for over 12 years now.Last edited by Oracle; 07 Dec 18,, 03:23.Politicians are elected to serve...far too many don't see it that way - Albany Rifles! || Loyalty to country always. As for me, I am out until Smith & Warner return. If we were just a crap team, or if the penalty remotely fitted the crime I would suck it up & watch the carnage. However, this team is a travesty created by a cricket board so incompetent that most of the members who made that decisions are gone six months later. So, I will be missing the Boxing Day Test for the first time in decades.
Enjoy the series. The BCCI would never do anything this dumb, so you deserve to win.sigpic

Through an act of criminal stupidity the ACB has removed two players who between them average over 130 per innings at home. Without them at the crease we will struggle to make 300 and could be rolled for much less in any given innings. Absent serious rain you could win this series 4-0.

Curse BCCI all you want, I do too, all the time. But if your grouse is BCCI being the richest cricketing body in the whole world supports corruption, well that goes too far. You should be proud of Cricket Australia for taking corrective action that cleanses the game.
I love the game. This game is bigger than cricket boards or cricketers themselves. As a cricket lover, you should too.Last edited by Oracle; 12 Dec 18,, 03:35.Politicians are elected to serve...far too many don't see it that way - Albany Rifles! || Loyalty to country always. He should be first one on the flight back home from Perth...
Utility of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri as captain and coach must be assessed if India fail to win the next two Tests against Australia, suggested batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, who is baffled by the 'selection blunders' committed by the team management.
India lost the Perth Test by 146 runs to allow the hosts level the four-match series 1-1. India went in with four specialist pacers while Australia picked spinner Nathan Lyon, who eventually tuned out to be the difference between the two sides. The first one on the flight back home from Perth should be India opener KL Rahul according to Gavaskar.
"He (Rahul) has no chance of playing in the remaining two Tests unless of course there is an injury to any player. I think that he should be coming back and playing Ranji Trophy for Karnataka. It is not just that he is out of form, he is just not there and you can see that. He can prove me wrong and I will be very happy to be proven wrong as long as the Indian team benefits."
"We have been seeing this - the selection blunders that have been committed since the tour of South Africa. It has cost the team because it has lost matches which could've been won if the proper selection had been made," Gavaskar said.
"They have to look at the combination of their team, look at the hole that needs to be plugged and pick the men to. If they do that then they can certainly win the next two matches but if they don't, and that too against this Australian team which does not have Steve Smith or David Warner, then the selectors need to think whether we are getting any benefit from this lot - the captain, coach and support staff,”"I want to find out that who has authorised 19 players to go because the next question is why not three more? The BCCI is a very rich body, it can afford to send even 40 people down there. However, I feel that an India cap, an Indian blazer has to be made a lot more valuable. ... by carrying players and taking 19 players, I do believe that the selection committee has not handled their responsibility well," he said.Politicians are elected to serve...far too many don't see it that way - Albany Rifles! || Loyalty to country always. If any Indian players are caught doing this, they should be banned for life. I don't believe in whining, but bans and results. My love is for the game, not millionaire cheaters.sigpic

Originally posted by Bigfella View PostMaybe not, but two players who average a combined 250+ per game in Australia would make a significant difference, especially in a game decided by 30 runs.
Originally posted by Bigfella View PostMy issue with the BCCI is that it uses its power to manipulate the game in negative ways. One of these is to allow Indian players to escape the consequences of their on field misbehaviour. Quite how that connects with me wanting Australian players to receive a punishment many times greater than the ICC has ever handed out for this offence, but disagreeing with a disgracefully large penalty, is beyond me. I'm sure it makes sense to you....or not.
Originally posted by Bigfella View PostPlease do not lecture me on how I should feel. I have loved this game from the beginning of my memory. That is why I am disgusted that two of its best players should be scapegoated and over punished for an offence that has always been considered minor - not a single Test suspension until Smith & Warner admitted their role. Banning them for a year is not the act of people who love the game, it is the act of people who were panicked by social media & lacked the spine to defend their players from a baying mob.

More chance of the match referee getting a life ban (which actually happened, of course).Politicians are elected to serve...far too many don't see it that way - Albany Rifles! || Loyalty to country always. Originally posted by Oracle View PostThe way I see it, cheats got punished for bringing disrepute to the game. The issue is, and this I've seen for atleast a decade, Australian cricket team would do anything to win. Sledge, cheat, play unfair cricket. I hope you remember India's test series in Australia and what the Indian Captain (Kumble) said there during the post-match session, I'll repeat it for you "Only one team played in the spirit of the game".
No it doesn't make sense to me, particularly when you want Australian players caught cheating on the field by TV cameras, get a lighter sentence.
And what on-field behavior of Indian players are you talking about? Cite examples, so that I can understand if that is a legitimate issue or as usual whining. Maybe, then I'll cite examples of Australian players of the past.
I will leave the whining to the supporters of nations whose players do all the things we do but act like we are the only nation that has ever sledged or name called.
I was not lecturing you, trying to make sense of what made you support lighter sentences of two cricketers caught cheating on the field, and your constant rants about the BCCI and Indian players, when this incident isn't about the BCCI or Indian players. You don't come as someone who's in love with the game, maybe in love with "cricket Australia". When it's Australian players, let them go scot free, players from other nationality - well execute them on the pitch. Cheats have no place in this game.
Of course, if you can't then that will make you a liar.
If I was a member (WAB) when, the incident you mentioned, happened, I'd have called for a ban. But then again, you'd not believe it. Now continue bringing up past incidents, then assume what I'd have done, and be happy.
This discussion seems to be heading into the realms of fantasy, so I'm going to leave it there. maybe Snapper will find your hollow moralising and fanciful claims more worthy of attention.sigpic

Originally posted by Bigfella View PostI want them to get a FAIR sentence. Until Australian players got caught ball tampering the ICC thought that was a fine, or a craven back down under pressure. Smith and Warner got 1 match, which I thought was too light despite the precedent. I wanted 3-4 matches and both players stripped Captaincy/Vice duties for at least a year. That is a FAIR sentence, and more than Dinesh Chandimal got for ball tampering AND refusing to let his team take the field in protest when he was charged.
Originally posted by Bigfella View PostRacist slurs and ball tampering come to mind. Your current coach led the lynch mob that saw a match referee lose his job as a result of one of those. Classy. Bring up all the Australian behaviour you want. I have never claimed that we are angels, just that we get judged by a different standard. You seem determined to prove me right.

Originally posted by Bigfella View PostIf you want to make sense of my posts you will need to read them. Properly. Clearly you are incapable of that. Feel free to point out where I have claimed Australian players should get off 'scot free' and where I have insisted players from other nations be punished more harshly for the same offences. You have an entire thread here of some years standing. Go for it.
Of course, if you can't then that will make you a liar.
Originally posted by Bigfella View PostSo you called for a life ban for Tendulkar and Ganguly when they were caught ball tampering? Really? How about Faf Du Plessis & Dinesh Chandimal. They got caught fairly recently. Am I going to find you calling for life bans for them?
Did you post about Faf and Chandimal? Maybe I have missed it, BUT, my position is the same for all cheats, irrespective of nationality. I don't have double standards when it comes to cheating. Cheats should be banned for life.
