    I do my best :)

Callmecur- I'll do my best, but I don't think I'll be holding a porter of ale, maybe root beer but that's the best I'm going to do

      • Right now? Just what's in my head, Who I am by Jessica Andrews and Could not Ask for More by Sara Evans.

Later, when I turn on the tunes, it will be those two, but Sara's Breathless album instead, and Martina McBride.
        ---------------
("I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
        Every prayer has been answered
Every dream I've had has come true", lyrics, Could not Ask for More--Sara Evans)

          • Who's Next

Today was listening to the Who, "Baba O'Riley". A song about the war in Rhodesia. The flight of white farmers to South Africa and a whole generation drafted to fight the war. The song closes with lyrics alluding to a phrase borrowed from the Great War, "normal combat wastage".

I attended high school with the children of several families who came here to the United States to get away from the fighting. They sent all their women and children away to safety while the men stayed to run the farms or fight in the army.

In 1976 (I was in high school) the Rhodesian army was pushing for recruits with the slogan, "Be A Man Among Men, Join The Rhodesian Army!" and were offering a $3000 enlistment bonus. Not a small sum in those days. Little did I realize in a few short years I would be fighting in Africa.

            "Baba O'Riley"

            Out here in the fields
            I fight for my meals
I get my back into my living
            I dont need to fight
            To prove Im right
I dont need to be forgiven

            Dont cry
            Dont raise your eye
            Its only teenage wasteland

            Sally ,take my hand
            Travel south crossland
            Put out the fire
            Dont look past my shoulder
            The exodus is here
            The happy ones are near
            Lets get together
            Before we get much older

            Teenage wasteland
            Its only teenage wasteland
            Teenage wasteland
            Oh, oh
            Teenage wasteland
            Theyre all wasted!
Reddite igitur quae sunt Caesaris Caesari et quae sunt Dei Deo
(Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto God the things which are God's)
