I think dealing with China and dealing with USA are both touchy subjects. You have to be careful with both, but China is really bad when it comes to free speech. They will mess you or your family up if you do anything that makes them look bad. I generally find it is safer to not care about what celebrities think, they're no more intelligent that anyone else.

Jackie's reputation in HK tanked a little bit because of the cheating scandal. Although, his wife didn't and doesn't give a damn about it as long as she is still Mrs. Chen.

In India Jackie Chan has a very big fan following. Indians do like his movies for the comedy he brings in the fight scenes.
So what if he speaks for his country? If he did not, someone would call him a traitor.
However, the demi-God status is reserved for Bruce Lee.

Xinhui, the point is no one should praise the Chinese government in any sort of way even if it came from some big mouth actor. Otherwise, he or she will become a communist sympathizer and mouthpiece. The problem is people who portray Jackie as a Communist mouthpiece or fear about the Chinese propaganda should first look at the world today. What kind of propaganda is the dominate ideology? For a communist nation that its number one enemy is the Maoists and its number one problem is wealth poor gap, its actions and reality speak louder than words.
As for Jackie and his son Jaycee Chan,
Jaycee Chan considered himself as an American or not. It is his business, not ours.
As for Jackie, an actor is an actor. He is no politician. People might watch Jackie Chan's movies but very few would give a damn about his views. In HK, people called Jackie as a hypocrite, and making all sort of jokes about him. He got criticized for making many stupid comments. Do people give much weight about Jackie's opinions? next to zero. Do people watch Jackie's movies? Some do.
