I understand people are scared. But the least people could have done is to call health authorities and report him. This way he could have had a place to stay (quarantine) and food to eat.

    Didn't know what ?

I'm questioning why the police did not act more forcefully to stop the congregation ? that to me is the glaring lapse here.

Does not matter what Saad says, rules are rules. Why weren't they enforced. This is the Delhi right, Amit Shah's turf ?

Will be watching for infections in the coming days

Ramanagar BJP district president M Rudresh, however alleged,"The information we have is that at least 150 to 200 vehicles were given permission to attend the event ... till now Ramanagara is safe from coronavirus and is in the green zone. If at all the disease spreads in Ramanagara, the entire blame will be on Deve Gowda's family."
They've sealed two wards in Bangalore already. There are 198.

The city commissioner tells me there is nothing to fear as the problem is being contained. The bulk of cases here are from travel history and contact tracing has been fairly aggressive. We've not had any spreaders here to date. Fortunately.

I'm still going to build a two week stockpile in case the problem spreads further in the city.

Sealing here means Wuhan style, cannot leave the front entrance like clamp down. A lock down as is the case presently is a little more relaxed than that.

He is, over ten years back Nikhil was in the news for trashing a restaurant because they refused to serve him when he turned up just as they were about to close.

His dad, HDK, CM at them time said "boys will be boys". That was it. I imagine damages would have been paid behind the scenes but nothing more happened.

Had the police evicted those TJs forcefully, the media would have had a field day slamming the BJP government of being insensitive to muslims and what not. Don't you see what the left-liberals are writing in the media? My god.

It won't go. Particularly, since 2002 riots have got Modi's name on it, even though he's been exonerated by the Supreme Court. Modi's name, not stamp. I hope people understand the difference, that riots in India are reactive. • We seem to be holding for now.

Covid hasn’t gone viral in India yet, but some in the world & at home can’t accept the truth | The Print | Apr 18 2020

I spend most of my time, especially during the lockdown, reading up and watching whatever is available globally on coronavirus. Every couple of days, there is a story or a commentary insinuating and implying three things:

One, India must be concealing figures. Sometimes a snide remark in a TV discussion.

Two, that India will soon — and inevitably — be the worst victim of the virus with millions dead.

And three, that we in the Indian media are either complicit with the Modi government and won’t speak the truth, or so intimidated that we can’t.

The fact is that all our reporters are also looking at the same set of data points with a high degree of suspicion. Something to prove that the government figures are a gross under-estimation or a China/North Korea style fudge. But we do not find such facts — at hospitals, in surveillance figures, from so many state governments where anti-BJP parties rule. Health, in India, is a state subject.

An easy option is to follow the way of the BBC which, earlier this week, ran a story quoting two anonymous doctors from an unnamed hospital in Mumbai claiming lots of people were dying of respiratory collapse but were either not tested for Covid or not declared its victims.

Would they run a story like that on Britain, or any other country where they’d treat human life in a more dignified, less cavalier fashion?

But this is the ‘bhookha–nanga’ India, what is the story if it isn’t at least a few hundred thousands of Indians dead?

Especially when the UK, Italy, Spain, the US, are already floating in high five figures. Or unless you begin counting for bodies like our Holy National Accountant of Yore used to count notional losses, with series freely added.
Americans were also told they would lose 100 - 240k dead. Now the people who said that seem to be back tracking.

                    • ^ The print (left cabal media outlet) came up with that? And that too Shekhar Gupta. I am surprised.

But he is bang on point. How can an under-developed country like India contain Covid-19 cases, when US, UK, Italy could not? Well, for developed country's sake, we acted quickly, we locked down the entire country, and we're pursuing the Tablighi Jamaatis in each and every corner of India. And more.

1918 flu pandemic killed 12 million Indians, and British overlords’ indifference strengthened the anti-colonial movement | Conversation | Apr 17 2020

Introduced into the trenches on Europe’s Western Front, the virus tore through the already weakened troops. As the war approached its conclusion, the virus followed both commercial shipping routes and military transports to infect almost every corner of the globe. It arrived in Mumbai in late May.

When the first wave of the pandemic arrived, it was not particularly deadly. The only notice British officials took of it was its effect on some workers. A report noted, “As the season for cutting grass began … people were so weak as to be unable to do a full day’s work.”

By September, the story began to change. Mumbai was still the center of infection, likely due to its position as a commercial and civic hub. On Sept. 19, an English-language newspaper reported 293 influenza deaths had occurred there, but assured its readers “The worst is now reached.”

Instead, the virus tore through the subcontinent, following trade and postal routes. Catastrophe and death overwhelmed cities and rural villages alike. Indian newspapers reported that crematoria were receiving between 150 to 200 bodies per day. According to one observer, “The burning ghats and burial grounds were literally swamped with corpses; whilst an even greater number awaited removal.”

While the pandemic was of little consequence to many British residents of India, the perception was wildly different among the Indian people, who spoke of universal devastation. A letter published in a periodical lamented, “India perhaps never saw such hard times before. There is wailing on all sides. … There is neither village nor town throughout the length and breadth of the country which has not paid a heavy toll.”

Elsewhere, the Sanitary Commissioner of the Punjab noted, “the streets and lanes of cities were littered with dead and dying people … nearly every household was lamenting a death, and everywhere terror and confusion reigned.”

                        90 days in 1918: When Spanish flu killed half-a-million in Karnataka | DH | Apr 16 2020

About as many died in my state as the entire US in the last pandemic in 1918

By the time the governments woke up, the influenza virus had already travelled deep into the rural areas, besides besieging urban centres like Bangalore and Mysore. Even at this stage -- late September 1918 -- many thought it was just the common flu or existing diseases like Typhoid and Malaria. But the virus was hitting people everywhere violently.

The governments in different provinces were unaware of the magnitude of devastation that was happening on the ground during October, November and December. It was only after influenza made an unexpected retreat after a third wave of attack in early 1919 that estimates were made in areas of present-day Karnataka.

The official estimate for today’s Karnataka is indeed chilling. Out of a combined total population of 14 million across different provinces, at least four million (1911 Census) were infected by the influenza virus.

But the death toll was even more shocking. As per conservative estimates, at least 570,000 people, a majority of whom were women, had died in the districts that form Karnataka today. And a disproportionately large number of the dead of both sexes fell in the 10-40 years age group. The toll must actually be significantly higher, as the Nizam’s Hyderabad had underreported the death toll in Bidar, Gulbarga and Raichur districts, where conservatively 85,000 people had perished.

In hindsight, if the administrations and people had woken up early to fight the virus by way of social distancing and quarantine, the magnitude of the tragedy may have perhaps been softened. At that time, today’s Karnataka lost as many of its people as the entire United States lost to the deadly influenza. Ironically, today, the US is again counting its dead in thousands each day for the past week or so.

On a day when Karnataka registered its highest daily spike in the number of new coronavirus cases, thousands came out to participate in a religious procession in Kalaburagi district and openly defied the nationwide lockdown.
                          Why is Kalaburagi famous ?

The district police were initially clueless about Thursday’s event. They registered a case on Friday.

According to senior police officers, authorities had taken a written statement from the temple body that the annual fair would not be organised this year because of the lockdown and concerns over coronavirus.

The organisers ignored the promise, holding the event in the evening without informing authorities.

There has got to be a better explanation than this.

If the cops acted it would be portrayed as hindu rashtra thugs on minority. This could lead to protests all over the country.

What happens then to the lock down ? there is none. It's over.

This had to be a more compelling reason to let it go and then pursue them after with the media in tow.

Same things with this festival in my state.

Act on the muslims get slammed for being hindu rashtra

Act on the hindus get slammed for being an occupier foreign force.

You have two large groups against you now as you can't act on just one, have to act on both.

And so transgressions from either community can and will take place from time to time.

This is routine in normal times and continues even now.

Pick your battles wisely is the point.
