I just found out today that my local supermarket around the corner is now selling hand sanitizer again. With labels saying they're effective against SARS-Cov2. Only available in 1 Liter bottles, one per person. For 20 Euro. From a company that normally produces pool cleaners...

    • At least our health workers are kitted up in protective suits. But here the mob is chasing them away : (

This is why Chinese send the police along. People aren't going to cooperate.

So we have to wait for people to develop symptoms and beg for help.

      Unnecessary waste

Read about it today. You'd imagine why are those people behaving such. This is why I want a ban on Whatsapp and FB in entire India, forever. Those are the epitome of fake news in India.

Wuhan had nowhere near 20-60 percent infection rate and this was the first outbreak when everyone was prepping for Chinese New Year.
95% of the COVID-19 infected population has immunity. If you had COVID-19 and recovered, GO WILD! Hell, they should get jobs serving the public right now.
The data is not out there if social distancing works or not. This is a brand new concept.

I don't know whether we can ban just whatsapp & FB alone. It's technically possible i'd imagine.

That is without disconnecting the internet entirely which would be a very bad idea at this time.

We would not have got this video otherwise if you think about it.

              • There’s no evidence the new coronavirus spreads through the air – but it’s still possible | The Conversation | Feb 14 2020

I have no idea what to make of this one ?

Yes i get the spreading by droplets but they are saying there is no way to do it via aerosols. As in there is no evidence or is it that the risk is very low.

smaller particles aren’t implicated in the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

Smaller particles remain suspended in the air and evaporate very quickly (at less than one-tenth of a second in dry air). They leave behind gel-like particles made of proteins, salts and other things, including viruses.

These leftovers are called “droplet nuclei” and can be inhaled. They may remain aloft for hours, riding the air currents through a hospital corridor, shopping centre or office block. This is what we mean when we talk about something being airborne.
If so then this virus cannot be spread by the central air conditioning. This has huge implications because it means people can get back to office work so long as other precautions are followed.

They don't need to be wearing N95 masks either.

To infect humans, the droplet nuclei need to contain infectious virus. The virus must be able to land on our mucous membranes – the soft lining of our ears, nose, conjunctiva (eyelid), throat and digestive tract and it must be able to enter our cells and replicate.

There also needs to be enough virus to overcome our early immune responses to the invader and start an infection.

So a few stars have to align for airborne infection to result.
We don't have evidence to show its possible with C19 as yet but that does not mean its impossible. As it has been noticed with other diseases, like measles, MERS, flu viruses & rhino viruses.

But even if an airborne route is found in the future, it’s unlikely to be the major route of transmission.

People who are ill and show symptoms such as coughing and sneezing usually produce and expel viruses in greater amounts than those who show fewer symptoms. These sicker people are more likely to spread the virus via bigger wet droplets, physical contact and contamination of surfaces and objects.
We're talking relative degrees of risk here. Sicker person has more germs to spread and will likely expel more of them via droplets or touching. Yet i question here why isn't their mere breathing also as dangerous ?

This article is dated Feb 14, there might be more current research since that makes the case for aerosols

This is what that gentleman who was the frist survivor from my state also said. Developed a fever only a few short days after returning from abroad.

Would require extremely gregarious people to get up that high and that is without a lock down : )

Exponential estimates assume the chain of infection will not be broken and most of the chains continue infecting others.

It needs at least 80-90% compliance to be effective. There's an Aussie mathematical modelling paper that describes this which i have not found yet.

If the leaks exceed that then the whole purpose is defeated and the costs of maintaining the lock down exceed the benefits.

Enforcing compliance with force or penalties would be mixed to counter productive. As an agitated public could fight back defeating the goal of social distancing to begin with. They don't need to fight back they just needs to be mass disobedience an people come out and carry on as usual.
