As I get older, I think I get more patient, more controlled in how I drive. If I can, I'll break for the stop light instead of accelerating on the yellow (I really hate stop lights on 55 mph roads). I won't rush to make a left hand turn in mid road........though I can hear my past father's voice in my head saying, "Tamara, don't wait, go for it!".
Now, my reasoning to myself against rushing has always been that one could have an engine cut out or that a small animal could get in the way or something. And last night, I was proven right. Two IDIOT skateboarders, in dark clothes, jumping the curb where there isn't a street light, there potentially in the middle of the road.
As it was, I did "see" them first. One of the things I've learned driving country roads is to be wary of fleeting shadows of the night. I see it, then I don't see it, but then I am wary of the area, slow down, on alert. It may be a deer, or a raccoon, or in this case, a skateboarder looking to surf for God.
But it seems the idiots are not confined to the night. Today, I was driving out of a wilderness area, where the entrance/exit is something of a river delta pattern. A graceful turn entry from approaching traffic, a right angle entry for opposing traffic, and then a right angle exit into opposing traffic, a graceful merge exit into approaching traffic...................and two idiots from opposing traffic used the graceful merge exit as their entry. Fortunately, I was further back for one and in the right angle exit for the other, but for crying out loud people, where are your brains?
SIGH! It is because of those situations that one is very wise to look both ways when pulling out on a one way street...............because you never know when you will meet an idiot going the wrong way because they are too lazy to loop around.
Seen that, too!
