  • I had a non happy pepperoni pizza for lunch that was so kick ass that I went back to the same place for dinner and had a way cool linguni with a 4 cheese sauce that was heaven.

Did a lot of crazy things with that German dude.

I'll grant you that this is a wierd combo. Improvising.

In the middle of designing a digital circuit, he goes i've not eaten, looks at the shelf, sees a tin of tuna, a chocolate bar. Opens the tin and scoops out tuna with a chocoloate strip. Helps if the tuna is oily. Budget tin of tuna and plain chocolate.

It worked kept us going for a few hours more :)

When on holiday in Tunisia I ordered a homemade Tarte aux Pommes, it was so nice I ordered three more. Thankfully they were thin pies but I did have to squeeze into the aircraft seat on the way home. I blamed it on the lack of room rather than an expanded waistline.

Scrub out milk for plain on my list even though my swampduck thinks I have eventually flipped my lid but I will try anything once. I will try the high cocoa content as I think that will temper the taste of the oil in the fish.

          • Ben's Keep It Simple Salad (KISS). Some croutins, some lettuce, 2 medium tomatoes, 2 medium cucumbers, 2 medium pickles. Slice and fry a medium onion and a coupla cloves of garlic, and then toss some seasoned chicken breast in to fry as well. I prefer seasoning with a mixture of paprika, oregano, salt and pepper. Incredibly simple, incredibly easy and quick to make, 20 minutes from first slice to first bite. Feeds 2 comfortably or one person for 2 meals (which workd out perfect for a student like me).

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

            • If I counted correctly, you tossed 8 ingredients in there... How is that simple?

              • Because there's practically no work involved. You're either cutting/slicing vegetables or chicken, or frying the some of the vegetables or the chicken. It's actually quite simple and easy to make.

                • Chocolate and tuna does not work...ever. I think if you have drunk 10 pints of Irish Stout then you may well get away with believing it's a wonderful discovery. It just didn't work for me and the wife left the room in disgust. :)

So, it was late, we were under pressure, stone cold sober and there wasn't anything available with the same energy profile.

When you'got all that and hungry, you'd be amazed at what works.

The wife has endured my odd feasting over the years but fish and chocolate was too much for her. Being a gentleman I did offer her first bite but the glare from helaserer eyes told me she may pass on this one. She is not normally delicate when it comes to eating and she tends to nibble like a bird...It's just a pity it's an egyptian vulture

                        • Apologies for being a bit lazy....time to make up for a bit of lost time.

First, something to make Tronic wish he was back in Toronto. I can see the shop that sells these from my front door (yes, you can hate me a little bit if it helps )

                          • Italians also have a say on the subject of puffed cheese.

You guessed right, they use Grana Padano.

                            • Melbourne has large & important Vietnamese & Chinese communities. Physically they are based in a number of locations around the city, so when it comes to Chinese New Year it is necessary to stagger the festivities so that those who wish to can attend different celebrations (and so each can have its 'day'). I live next to Victoria Street in Richmond - one of the homes of melbourne's Vietnamese community (thre is a local building that even has a clock tower identical to the Ben Tre market in Saigon). Last Sunday was their turn, and it was wall to wall food.

Beef in betel leaf & the stall that cooked it (along with satays & other treats)

These spiral fried potatoes...apparently Korean in origin....have been popular here for a few years. They are really just like a big potato chip, but with nice spices (in this case cummin & onion powder).

Another food stall, this time cooking pork on a stick, satay, beef in betel nut, corn and, at the end, banana in sticky rice.

The banana in sticky rice is cut up & covered in warm coconut sauce. YUM!!!

                              • Good luck trying to prepare food on open like that over here.

In 2 miliseconds all sorts of sanitary and market inspectors will crawl the place.

                                Looks yummy.
