  • It is not I that needs to block you as I respect the fact you voted leave and like you I hope it can end well; to me your view is not a personal affront. Not so in reverse I fear so it is you that needs to come to terms with the fact that I have my views but do not intend them as a personal attack on you. However I am happy to oblige your request.

Completley agree. I think many of older generation think that true soverignty still exists in the modern world, like it did before the UK joined the EC. Unfortunately, everything has changed since then. Business is global, labour is mobile, supply chains straddle continents and arbitration must be performed by international institutions. If Brexit goes ahead I really feel we've betrayed the next generation.

Though I think the real demography to blame for this is my own one (25- 40) year olds. You can't blame the young, they will always have a low turn out, but only 55% of the 25-40 year olds turned out to vote. That's disgraceful in my view, when our generation benefitted so much from the EU and the freedom of movement.

The Euro is a safer currency that the Pound right now, and is performing a lot better than Sterling since the referendum. Hell, the Argentine Peso and Venezulan Bolivar is safer right now..

          • So we've just borrowed another £122 billion to pay for the insanity of Brexit...
You can run the whole NHS on a year for that money, never mind the interest

Who borrowed it zara , tory govt ? why ? who voted 6 to 1 for a ref ? who never had an exit plan ? why does the govt send billions in aid to countries that do not need it and would like to kill us ? why ? if we stopped paying in to the EU would that not cover the cost or some of it , maybe all , why not ? the money paid into this corruption from 1972 would have funded the worlds health ,there seems to be millions found for other projects in the UK while austerity abounds and foodbanks abound

We won't make any savings by from paying into the EU Tankie, because that money is the price of the single market. Without tariff free trade and more importantly regulatory free trade, our business's and exporters are far less profitable, meaning the tax take shrinks. Even Boris described it as a trivial fee for the single market.

Foreign aid is another subject (12 billion a year). But forcing our children and grandkids to pay back the £122 billion plus interest for Brexit is morally disgusting. We shouldnt be doing it.

Just as a note there: If the UK got a soft Brexit and managed to negotiate for Norwegian access conditions - which is rather unlikely - upscaled accordingly to British GDP at the time of the vote it'd have saved about 1-2 billion pounds a year compared to previous contributions as a member to the EU. Of course those 1-2 billion would then have likely gone into related costs on top of the Norwegian conditions, such as paying for British national former EU staff (which, in a lump sum, would probably amount to anywhere between 5 and 10 billion, and will definitely be an item of contention in exit talks if the UK ever dares to declare Article 50).

                      • The EU commission is an unelected, unaccountable Racket, filled with Europe's failed political class. Living the high life and justifying their existence by creating an endless stream of bureaucratic regulation. None of which they personally suffer.
Luckily, enough of us remember what Great Britain is suppose to stand for and actually had the nerve to vote leave. Unfortunately, many of the younger generation don't understand the national pride felt by previous generations and dismiss them as a bunch of xenophobes at best or closet racists at worst. The internationalist (socialist) agenda at work via the EU is its own enemy, as it has nothing but contempt for its own citizens. I haven't met one Italian, Cypriot/Greek, Pole etc (and I talk to many) that disagrees with the UK leaving, not one. In fact, quite the opposite. They say we've shown real balls! The only people that are complaining about the result in the UK are people who have been doing very nicely out of it while the rest of us have struggled with over regulation...

Zara would you support a law that dictates every eligible voter must vote regardless , ?

Like they do in Australia? One of my friends got a 50 dollar fine for not voting!
Not sure about that... maybe... think I'd need to read up on it before forming a view.

Just think that so many in the 25-40 bracket (I know a few) just assumed remain would win so didnt bother to vote. I dont blame the young or the old for the outcome, I blame my generation.

As an opponent of the EU tankie, are you hoping for a 'No' vote in Italy next week?

                              • PS. I should correct my earlier comments that we've borrowed £122 billion to pay for Brexit - The office for Budget responsibility says that 58.7 billion is directly attributable to Brexit. Still outrageous - We could run the military and the police for a year for that figure.
