    This is madness.

Unfortunately, can't say I am surprised or that I think it is over.

Putin delivered another $2 billion dollar tranche to the Ukraine government last week. The Kremlin had said after the first tranche it would withhold additional funds until it was clear which government Yanukovich would appoint before lending more. The bet here is that Yanukovych said what Putin wanted to hear when the two met during the opening ceremonies in Sochi. A scheduled debate in parliament today about amending the constitution was blocked by Yanukovych supporters.

The Berkut closed the underground metro and attacked Maidan. Hundreds may be dead. Central Kyiv is aflame tonight but no one is retreating.

Violent unrest has now also broken out in L'viv and Ivano-Frankvisk. Alea iacta est - the die has now been cast. Civil war is upon us.

Hopefully not, as long as the army stays out there is a chance for peace.

I expect it to be over within the next month at most. Probably most will go to jail. Especially in the West where Administrations and Gov't buildings were taken over.

You have no idea what a civil war is, there was no critical mass for it, no ideals, nothing concrete. Just some EU funds given to disgruntled nationalists whom destroyed any and all backing from the population at large once they marched a few times at Kiev and started confronting locals.

Notice in Kiev the locals don't participate they want all these 'brought in' people gone. Long long gone, that is the reality. They lost their hearts and minds in December...

This is what happens when you ask for asymmetric demands and create a bargaining position so adverse that the opposite side[Gov't] realizes the only way to bargain is by force.

Political outflows from this will actually make opposition weaker because it stood for nothing, absolutely nothing. Just populistic slogans and EU-Fta promotion, no concrete reform not one solid set out way to improve people's lives internally. Just feel good slogans, 'once we clean out the gov't we will make things right' aha right... good luck with that.

                  Zraver,

Well those BTR's in the clip certainly wouldn't belong to the police. Those ain't water cannons mounted on the turrets.

They may not intend to use them offensively but if rounds are incoming and cops start dropping it's not a stretch of the imagination to think some 19yold conscript won't panic and pull the trigger, that may be all it takes.

Why not? The Police here (as all over the Balkans) has them.

1.Ukr. health authorities report 25 dead and hundreds of wounded.

2.In Ternopol it looks like some police switched sides.
3.In Lvov there are reports of protesters assaulting military barracks and arsenals.

This one is a classic method. It happened in Romania in 1989 and in Syria at the start of the civil war.

This is what happens when a president outright lies to his people and then does a one-eighty on them. This is what happens when blackmail and coercion are utilized to fulfill a "Greater Russia" fantasy.

Millions of Ukrainians today do not want to live in a Putinesque "Little Russia" and are fed up with the corrupt kleptocracy of his puppet Yanukovych.

Can't say I disagree at all with those sentiments.

C'mon Minnie, at least be fair.

The incumbent is a scum of the highest order, but what the opposition does and how foolish they act should at least make you wonder what if they win.

BTW, what's their final goal? I mean after the (in their hopes) they win.
