I want to comment on this. The intel community NEVER commits to a position. They always have a CYA position. They will present the facts and let the decision makers make the decision and it is the decision maker's responsibility to stand behind that decision. That being said, that decision WILL ALWAYS be flooded with second guesses by the intel community JUST because there's intel that contradicts the decision. It has to be the BEST decision possible based on BEST intel available.

Within context, someone (more like three) fucked up. I have zero doubts about that. My decision would be to investigate all three. There's zero intel in the redacted report that would stop such investigations.

Well the Cons won the Toronto-St Paul’s byelection. Trudeau is going to feel the pressure to quit now. Or at least he should.

Canada again is being pressed to meet the NATO 2% GDP defence spending goal. While much has been touted about our 1.38% GDP defence spending, I think real numbers need to be in context. Absolute numbers Canada's defence spending is $29Bil US. Contrast that with Poland, the highest GDP spender at 3.9% GDP but also in absolute numbers at $29Bil US. Canada's defence spending is identical to the highest NATO GDP spender.

This is not to suggest Canada should not be doing more. Canada made the pledge. Canada should honour it. But in absolute numbers, at 2% GDP would equal $42bil US. That would place Canada 5th in absolute NATO spending. I'm not sure that we have the population numbers who would flushed out such numbers.

Annex Alaska, that should help! I'm sure no-one will notice it's gone.

Trudeau said we'd reach 2% in 2032. I'm not sure that will fly with an incoming (assuming) Trump administration.

Poilievre wants to cut government spending and end 'wokeism' in the military. So how does he plan on meeting the 2%? Like I don't know how he can cut government spending and at the same time spend on the military to that degree.

It will probably take a Trump administration and the the presumed economic tariffs that would come down on us for more people to take it serious and make hard decisions on how to get to 2% faster.

The RCN alone will give you a hint. Currently, the RCN has 12 Frigates and 4 submarines. 14 new Destroyers have been budgeted for and yesterday's announcement for 12 submarines. That's a total of 30 new crews that is needed, nearly double the current size of the RCN's combat force.

The one thing wrong with that assumption of annexing Alaska is that Alaska is full of Alaskans.

True, but it's not like they're going to move anywhere else and no-one from Canada is ever going to move there permanently so it all works out nicely.

Oh come on, don't you think the Colonel wouldn't be attracted by all that very wide open isolated space?

He already freezes his tits off in winter. Why bother to move?
