  • 300 Illegal Workers Arrested at Wal-Marts

WASHINGTON - Federal officials arrested more than 300 illegal workers at 61 Wal-Mart stores across the country early Thursday morning and searched the Bentonville, Ark., office of one of the retail chain's corporate executives.

The workers arrested were members of cleaning crews which the company hired through a contractor. All were people in the country illegally, said a federal official on condition of anonymity.

The arrests occurred as the workers were finishing their night shift and took place at 61 stores in 21 states.

The arrests stem from a November 1998 investigation done in conjunction with the Pennsylvania attorney general's office. In that investigation, officials also targeted contractors and subcontractors used by Wal-Mart to clean stores.

Employers are required to check forms known as I-9's, filled out by every new employee, and keep the forms for a specified period of time. An employer can face civil and criminal penalties if the employer knowingly hired illegal immigrants or doesn't comply with the I-9 regulations.

The people arrested were detained at local immigration offices, the official said. If they had no previous criminal record, they were released with notices to appear before immigration judges.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the world's largest retailer, based in Bentonville, Ark.

Arrests were made in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

I saw a commercial on TV last night, this man was talking about how his son had some kind of liver problems, and they couldn't afford to pay the bill, but Wal-Mart was soooo generous, and his insurance through Wal-Mart.

It would have been truly touching if it wasn't BS.

Which reminds me, there's this Mediacom commercial they keep replaying in different versions. They talk about how they try to get all the best channels, but, alas, the network forces them to buy their other, less popular channels. "In the end, we don't make the decision on how much your going to pay on your cable bill", something like that, "the networks do."

It cuts to the end, with the Mediacom logo, and a voice saying, "Mediacom, working for you."

:LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL :LOL

if the FBI would focus on national security rather than nailing illegal immigrants to the curb, 9/11 would have never happened.

That is more true than you think. I know it comes off like bullshit, but it's true.
You need to realize that companies like say Disney own probably a dozen channels and are coming out with more practically every year. You see, it's not just The Disney Channel anymore. It's Disney Channel, Toon Disney, Disney Playhouse, and the whole f--king ESPN empire. And you can bet that Disney charges the cable and satellite companies through the nose for those channels, ESPECIALLY for America's beloved sports. Cable/Satellite companies don't get those channels for free.
So let's say a cable/satellite company balks at paying a high fee for the Disney Channel. Well, Disney is going to use it's other channels (ESPN!) as leverage against that cable/sat. company.
And when Disney comes out with a new channel (Disney Playhouse), you can bet they'll do whatever they have to, to ensure widespread carriage of that new channel.
Finally, the fees that cable and satellite company's get charged to carry sports programming is astronomical and rises every friggin year.

And it's happend, 2 years ago in Los Angeles, Time Warner cable refused to pay higher fees, so disney cut off ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, Toon Disney, etc from Time Warner's Los Angeles system.

What are you smoking? This had nothing to do with the FBI, just because it said federal officals does not mean FBI.
This was probably the new immigraiton service.

Also, illegal immigrants themselves are a threat to national security, it's no laughing matter.

That's exactly correct Gio. See what happens when a cable/satellite company tries to fight back against a channel provider's excessive licensing fees? Half their channel line-up could get yanked.
