I am sorry, I still do not understand what you mean by "sustaining an inherited class system"

Can you define "inherited class"? Are you saying that anyone who inherits anything receives "unmerited wealth"? That if I bequeath some bank deposits to my daughter they would be unmerited and should be taxed or taken away?

And what do you mean by "sustaining"? If I buy a home and leave it for my daughter, how is society "sustaining" it?

By the way, I am not talking about "kin helping kin". I am talking specifically about me working harder and spending less so that I can leave something for my children.

How do you know they didn't help build that wealth in the case of a kid who goes to work for the family business and stands to inherit that upon the parents demise. We have family farms in America that have been passed on for a couple hundred years. Should they have that taken away?

Much, much more important than that is the following line of reasoning:

If I as a participant in the economic system am led to believe that all the wealth that I am earning and accumulating for my children would be taken away as my children supposedly do not merit them, I would be less inclined to boost my productivity.

Why put in the extra effort to do extra stuff (like create a new product for example) when it is going to be taken away anyway?

Or I might spend it all instead of saving or investing it.

Hell, if I am Bill Gates and realize that all my wealth is going to be taken away, I might as well stick to be a data entry operator rather than develop the Windows OS

Whenever election time rolls around, the politicians start talking about revising the tax code. ROFL.

The Congress will NEVER revise the tax code, because that is the means by which they conduct their social engineering.

                Period. End of story.

I kind of like the idea of the FairTAX. 23% national sales tax. Eliminate the income tax for everybody, under, say $100,000 year or 200,000/married and have a low, mild progression beyond that.
