The closest he gets to Marxism is his talk about public ownership of companies and worker self-management, but none of that is backed up by any policy proposals whatsoever. Corbyn's industrial policy was far closer to that than what Sanders is proposing.

It looks like it will come down to Bernie Sanders vs Joe Biden in the DNC, though which do people really think is the better candidate? It really looks like choosing a lesser of two evils at this point and it's clear that none of them are strong choices.

Maybe if Biden wins, he can choose Bernie himself as his running mate. :D That strategy has a 50% chance of uniting both wings of the party and driving a historically high turnout that utterly destroys Trump in November and a 50% chance of angering both wings so much that turnout drops drastically (and the really pissed off people vote for Trump) leading to the biggest loss suffered by anyone in a US presidential election. High risk, high reward.

I'm thinking that Klobuchar's slip of the tongue was, at the very least, a trial balloon.

By all accounts, she'd make a good running mate for Biden and certainly enliven both the campaign and the Dem base.

I wonder if Trump is going to dump Pence. Doesn't seem likely, unless he needs a fall guy for his unbelievably shitty response to the coronavirus pandemic. Then it's straight under the bus he goes lol.

other than the "woman" aspect, Klobuchar doesn't really excite the Dem base much. her strike is that she's essentially part of the same moderate/establishment lane as Biden.

but past straight political appeal calculations, rewarding your friends and punishing your enemies is part of the game, so she has a pretty good shot.

I'd normally think Warren might have a good chance because she's beloved by the liberal-but-not-Bernie-crazy base, but if Biden picks her, then Gov Charlie Baker (R) would appoint a Republican to fill her vacant Senate seat.

Biden & Sanders would look like the two old guys on the Muppet show. Whoever gets the nod they at least need someone born after WW2 ended. They also need someone who might credibly take over if they keeled over.

Biden doesn't need a female as such, but he needs someone a couple of decades younger for a start. After that it is a matter of which boxes to check out of: 1) will appeal to the Sanders faction; 2) not white & preferably latino; 3) helpful in an important state or region.

I have no idea who is around that will tick the right boxes in the right sequence. I'm also aware that for all the focus on failed Presidential candidates, they don't often get the nod. However, they are high profile, so we talk about them. Would Julian Castro be a decent choice? I'm not sure he can get Texas over the line, but he could certainly help reach out to latino communities. Is Kamala Harris a contender? Any useful current or recent state governors?

The other consideration here is would a successful Biden seek a second term? Its hard to believe a term as President won't take a toll, and he is already struggling. In that case the plan would presumably be to give the VP the inside running for the 2024 nomination, which might also have to figure into calculations.

Thus far Pence has worked out well for Trump. he shores up a key constituency while being completely unthreatening. Getting rid of him for the uncertainty of a new candidate would be a risky move. Of course, Trump is just the guy to do it, but not is he is being smart.

What Biden needs to be doing is looking for someone to run and win in 2024.

He is stepping up to conduct damage control.

He needs to look forward to the future of the Party.

With that Klobuchar/Harris/Booker/Castro all would make sense.

As mentioned Warren would be a problem because of GOP GOV in MA...but Baker also knows he has won in MA because he is a moderate. Moderate GOP always has done well in MA. That is why Warren knocked off Scott Brown so easily.

Beto is too young and inexperienced.
