Wow, this is horrible
This is really turning out to be a terrible weak"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" ~ Epicurus

At this time an unknown number of fatalities and up to 100 injured. A four block area around the plant was leveled and the explosion could be heard 45 miles away. Triage has been set up in the local football stadium and emergency personnel from as far as Dallas/Fort Worth are responding. Helicopters are flying the wounded to various hospitals in north Texas.
The fertilizer plant is apparently located within the small town (3000) of West Texas, about 20 miles south of Waco. Questions of zoning propriety certainly come to mind here.sigpic

Watched the explosion on the BBC and it was catastrophic. If anyone was close to it they would be very lucky to have survived. There were reports that Fire Officers and Police Officers were in the area close to, if not at, the fire at the time and sadly nobody has heard from them since. Thoughts and best wishes are with the injured and missing at this time.

"The plant is right on the edge of town, only a few hundred metres from houses, a school and nursing home. Emergency services officials said ammonia may have caused the explosion. It has been reported the company had 54,000lbs (20 tonnes) of anhydrous ammonia on site". Was it folly to have such a plant so close to a town and school? I dread to think of the mass destruction and death if the explosion had happened at school opening/closing time.

Horrible accident. If you look at the google earth picture you can see the devastation it would cause. The problem with small towns with long term industry close to them....
