That may have been Romney's one and only objective, and a wise one at that. Otherwise, Obama won the debate. When it comes to foreign affairs, sitting presidents usually do better than challengers simply because they live and breath foreign relations daily.
    I agree.
Obama's advantage is there is a growing belief that the country is going in the right direction.
Romney's advantage is that undecided's tend toward the challenger simply because they've held out so long against the incumbent.

Perhaps you could convince me of that, as my impression is the opposite.

Have you conducted a poll on this rather interesting observation.:)

That's a pretty low bar, even I can probably make that. Also I am not certain we can trust some one with a football when that someone manages to insult whoever he talks to, even the British. He certainly did not seem to offer any new ideas and I thought he contradicted some of his espoused beliefs. I thought Obama came a bit strongly at Romney at times, which maks romney comment about attacking him justified, but did also manage to finish with his own ideas.

Nope, but I'm sure you're aware of the incumbent rule.
I realize the notion is under debate and is only a rough rule of thumb but never-the-less I rather suspect with the loss of the messiah wave this time round for Obama and the Dems, those holding off in the undecided category are looking for reasons to vote for Romney rather than for Obama.

I don't doubt you could be trusted with the football, as probably most rational and reasonably well informed people could. I don't think insulting the Brits, who in my opinion went overboard in their reaction, belies a tendency to use nukes to underscore criticism of the management of a sporting event. It's true that Romney didn't diverge much from current US foreign policy, but then neither did Obama diverge much from policies he inherited. The fact is, US vital interests haven't changed in decades, and all policy conforms to them. Romney confined himself to management and tone issues, which is safer ground than proposing a grand foreign policy initiative, although his comments about stepping up trade with South America hinted at a grand policy to come if he is elected.

One comment Obama made could backfire as soon as analysts clear their head. In response to Romney's call for increasing the size of the navy's fleet, Obama made light of the numbers game by saying we had fewer horses and bayonets than we used to, implying that numbers are not a criteria for establishing need. While Obama is right in principle, he did not refute Romney's contention with a reasoned argument. The analysts were snickering over how clever the remark was, but I'll wager a lot of people are still waiting for a substantive answer.

The rule suffers from too many variables.

Concerning the undecideds looking for reasons to vote for Romney, I agree. I expect they're attracted by Romney's business experience but still unclear about his plan.

People don't like their country to be criticized, especially by foreigners. We, Americans, don't like when foreigners attack the US. So I understand how you feel hearing your country criticized by our presidential candidates. Romney does more of it than Obama, who has to be more diplomatic because he is still president, and he doesn't want to offend China too much. He needs Chinese money to run the US government. But Obama did win some pretty big cases in the WTO court against China. Your
country was found guilty of dumping steel and tires in the US. Something to think about...

                          Welcome Udake,

Let me remind you that there were no shortages when people were consuming products not made in China. Not to mention that they were safer.

In your scenario, China will be net looser, so be careful what you wish for (think it is Chinese proverb)
