Right Wing ultra-conservatives, the uber-rich Koch Brothers and birther Donald Trump, Ayn Rand Think Tanks via Paul Ryan, anti-gay and anti-abortion fanatics, and "extreme" House Republicans whose policies are harmful to the middle class, the poor, and women.
“All we have to do is replace Obama.” Grover Norquist told CPAC, “We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don’t need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget… We just need a president to sign this stuff… Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States.”
Romney's role is to bow to the coup, play the role outlined by those mentioned above, and execute the plan. His job won't be as President of the United States, his job is being a good little soldier boy for them.

His job is to be a puppet.
Funny. I thought his job was to be MY puppet.
Flipping the coin over to its other side, do you see Obama as a puppet?
1) Politics is a dirty, shite game, and
2) Most, if not all, politicians (excluding the occasional good-guy crusader) are dirty, shite players in above dirty, shite game.
Now, that being established, it would seem that there really is no one worth voting for, since they are all schmucks. Moreover, everyone in politics knows for a fact that the other guy is the really big schmuck, our guy has just made some mistakes.
What we have here seems to be that our good friend with the smileys has two mistaken assumptions:
1)He mistakenly assumes that since some people are blind followers of Romney, all Romney supporters must be sheep, discounting the possibility of independent thought amongst Republicans.
2) He mistakenly assumes that all Romney supporters are just blind followers, but Democrat supporters of Obama (himself and all the people he sources, included) are smart, independent thinkers that are not sheep in a herd.
Mr. Smiley seems to suffer from something that in communications theory is called Third-Person Perception (TPP), or Third-Person Effect. TPP says that while most individuals believe mass media does have some effect on people, it consistently has a greater effect on the "Others", as opposed to themselves. "Others" of course being subjective, namely those segments of the population that are farthest from the person being asked. In essence, the person being asked is always smarter and more aware of the media's lies than those that are not like him.
For example: Upper-class whites can say that they have the education and good sense to see through the media's lies, but the ghetto-blacks will gobble it right up. Ghetto-blacks will say that they live the real life and know what's actually going on, but the upper-class whites locked away in their McMansions believe the lies the media puts out about how good things really are, but are actually ignorant to what is really going on.
In our case, Mr. Democrat here is much smarter than all those silly Republicans that are just accepting whatever the media and the powers-that-be in the GOP tell them. Now, there are some people that do fit their criteria, but that does not mean they are all like that. But that's okay, why not generalize, if you can?

I have a much simpler explanation.
People don't care about the guy, they care about the team.
They are not voting for the guy but their team. Even if their team pick a guy who's an absolute doofus, it does not matter at all.
Period. End of story.
The only people who care about the guy are those that are undecided who to vote for. The swing voters, that legendary group that can either make or break a campaign. They're the ones these character assasinations are targeted at.
That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that if you vote for Party A, the guy from Party B is the anti-Christ. If you vote for Party B, the guy from Party A is evil incarnate. Doesn't matter who you vote for, the other guy is always bad.

Agree ?
This is not about voting for a guy but an entire team.
Another supporting point i want to add is in the west personality counts for a lot less than it does in the developing world. The party lines are pretty well defined.

The problem seems to be that the team of advisers that Romney has already are all ex-Dubya cronies. It makes it apparent who he would put into his cabinet offices and in charge of things like cooking up a budget. And that's a really good deal for the middle class... (rolls eyes)
Once again, you seem incapable of accepting anyone's version of the truth but yours. The Democrats have one version of stabilizing the economy, the Republicans another. So far, the Democrats' version hasn't worked too well. A rational person would say "OK, let's try the Republican's version". As a fanatic (and have no doubt, that's exactly what you are), you are of the view that it's the Democrats' way or the highway.
As long as folks like dalem are the sheep....

That nugget of information does not matter at all to the party faithful.
card carrying members are supposed to vote for their team and most if not all do just that. Works for either party.
Tell me this... how large in % do you estimate the swing voter base comprises for the Nov elections ?
Depends. You also have those that are party diehards but will vote against their party if they're really pissed off for some reason, and those that won't vote for either major party on principle alone. Just because those 20% won't knee-jerk vote Democrat or Republican, doesn't mean they can be persuaded to vote for one of the two major parties.
