      • The incumbent, had he possessed our nation's best interests, would have withdrawn from the race in January (or earlier) and allowed a true competition among the democrats to select a new candidate. Sheer feckless arrogance on Biden's part to believe that half of himself is better than the best that might otherwise be found within the party.

He is "Ukraine's candidate" only because the alternative is worse...but he's proven a most casual friend of Ukraine.

I don’t know this Jim Vance from a hill of beans. What little I do know has been from this forum, and elsewhere in the media. The little I do know is that he is a politician. A clever and ambitious politicians, and as such he comes equipped with a reversible coat!
His actions are reminiscent of a politician we had here in Denmark some years ago. Also clever and ambitious, and also equipped with a reversible coat. For years he had been vehemently against Denmark joining the Common Market; predecessor to the EU. Until he did a 180, and as Prime Minister he turned his coat, and helped bring Denmark into the Common Market!
When tasked with his turncoat tactic, he had a simple answer:
“You can take a stance and viewpoint, until you take a new”!

          • Cute!!!
First Vance, now Haley; and who knows how many other top level Republicans, are now dining on their own words, their verbal attacks on Trump? Probably served up with a large side order of crow!!!
All going to feed what was already a super-sized ego!

I expect more likely from the Whitmer/Newsome/Pritzker/Harris wing.
I would not want to see Hillary Clinton enter the race, and I expect that she will publicly support Biden as long as he remains in the race. I would not be surprised if she was quietly working behind the scenes to undermine his support among the insiders.

But also — and this is a key point – I think that if Biden is not going to be the candidate, if the Democrats are going to choose someone else, and most especially if it looks like Vice President Kamala Harris might get the nod for the nomination, then I think Hillary would go all in and use anything and everything she can manipulate in trying to grab that nomination away from Kamala.

Biden surely knows that a divisive fight among Democrats would help Trump, and Biden does not want to help Trump. One thing that would short circuit that fight would be if Kamala Harris was to become POTUS prior to the Democrat convention, if Biden was to resign his office rather than merely withdraw from the race. He would need a good excuse to save face; such as coming down with a mild COVID infection that somehow becomes a case of "Long COVID", with associated fatigue, muddled thinking, etc.

COVID can inflict effects on anyone at any age, which is not the same as being perceived as an old geezer with rapidly worsening age-related dementia.

A long COVID diagnosis does not have to be true, rather only needs to be plausible. His physician will not have to testify under oath as to the veracity of the diagnosis and Biden's prognosis. With Biden's resignation, then POTUS Kamala Harris would be the incumbent, and there would be no divisive fight among Democrats to gain that nomination, rather only some healthy competition for VP.

This is obviously just a wild guess as to how this might play out.

Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms. He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.

              Note from the President’s Doctor:

The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus. Given this, the President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals. PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.

              • JRT, I think you totally misread the room. Hillary Clinton is a nonentity within the Democratic Party. She is a legacy. She can, of course, work for whomever settles down as the nominee but there is not much, if any, appetite for her to take on Trump in 2024. Just too many bad baggage and too many bad memories.

                • I have a lot of different thoughts on the states of the American political parties, their coalition alliances, what it's going to lead to economically and geopolitically, and have nowhere to discuss them or anyone to discuss them with. It's the kind of thing I feel like I need to write a 20 to 30-page paper on but I don't have the time.

                  It's frustrating.

Burgum and Rubio would've ended up call backs to the old Republican Party. Vance is the old Republican Party is dead.

My educated guess for the new Democratic Party ticket when they make it official is Harris/Beshear.

Once defiant, Biden now ‘soul searching’ about dropping out of race

OK, President Biden said it would take a hint from the Almighty for him to withdraw, well maybe Covid for the third time will be that hint!
So “IF” he does drop out! Who; with four months until your election, in the Democratic Party is sufficiently well known to stand against Trump?
Again, with four months until the election, the last thing the DP needs is a ‘cat fight’ for the top spot. So they'll need a name that Americans know!
Yes I know Joe, we been here before, but the only name that the polls say has a chance is “Michelle Obama!”
                          She has said No Way!
Well someone needs to have a serious talk with her, to forget her ‘Shermanesque’ “If nominated I’ll not run. If elected I’ll not sit” bull shit!
If not for the sake of the Party, then your country.
Because if not, then Trump looks like a shoe in!!!

The Biden team says that he has COVID.

The two videos below are from the day that was announced, bracketing the trip home. The first showing Biden getting out of his limo, walking to the aircraft, and climbing the boarding steps, and the second shows his arrival at the other end. Do you see anyone wearing masks? Joe is not wearing a mask to protect his team from infection, and nobody on his team is wearing any mask to protect themselves from infection.

I am only suggesting that this adds politically expedient options going forward. Maybe he does have COVID, or maybe not.
