If there is any silver lining, it is that if anyone is going to discredit right wing populism in the US, it would be Trump in his second term. Whether inflation triggered by tariffs and trade wars, the stock market tanking because of inappropriate interference with the Federal Reserve, mass deportation nets that even catch some American citizens, endless lawsuits and fights if they try to enact any policies from Project 2025, the defeat of Ukraine by Russia, there are a lot of ways in which a second Trump Presidency could cause really bad outcomes for ordinary Americans. I think this is what many Trump voters overlook; in his first term Trump inherited a fairly stable economy from Obama, debt was still at manageable levels and many of Trump's worst instincts were prevented from becoming policy by his advisors and cabinet members. This time there will be few pragmatic Republicans in Trump's inner circle, surrounded by sycophants and cranks and hardliners, Trump will probably find it much easier to translate his whims and instincts to actual actions.
