No. There is nothing "conservative" about fascist authoritarianism in the United States (or maybe call it authoritarian fascism). That is not a traditional value.

Though they do like to self-describe themselves as "Conservatives" with a capital-C, whatever else these new Republicans might be, they are most certainly not real conservatives. Rather that is just one more of their mischaracterizations.

There are some Democrat conservatives, just as there are some Republican conservatives, but neither seem to have much influence in modern American political discourse. They also don't get much support in their primaries, so few are getting elected to major office.

      You nailed it below:

Right-wingers, conservatives, Republicans, whatever they want to label themselves, it's all just Trumpism now. And Trumpism is neo-fascism written in crayon: far-right, authoritarian ultra-nationalism (most especially white nationalism but hardly limited to whites only), nativism and fealty to the idea that the 2020 election was stolen in one way or another, despite zero evidence of that but plenty of evidence of right-wing voter fraud and outright criminal attempts to overturn the results.

Right-wing politicians that say the election was lost by Trump fair and square are an endangered species. I doubt if any of them get reelected...assuming they even want to try.

Poll: 50% Of Likely Voters Support Biden’s Impeachment

A poll released on Monday revealed 50% of likely voters think President Joe Biden should be impeached, according to Rasmussen Reports.

The question of 1,000 likely voters conducted January 26-27, 2022, asked, “Some Republicans in Congress have endorsed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden, citing his immigration policy and his failure in Afghanistan, among other reasons. Do you support or oppose impeaching President Biden?”

Those supporting Biden’s impeachment included 74% of Republicans, 34% of Democrats, and 42 percent of Independents.

Among those who supported the president’s impeachment included 33% who strongly support Biden’s removal.

Among ethnic groups, the results included 50% of Black voters supporting impeachment. A total of 58% of other non-white voters also supported impeachment.

The poll is not the first by the organization to address whether Biden should be impeached. A September 2021 poll found 60% of voters agreed Biden “deserved” to be impeached following America’s military departure from Afghanistan.

“After the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in August, 60% of voters agreed with South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham that Biden deserved to be impeached. If the GOP wins a majority in the House of Representatives in the November midterms, 45% of voters believe it is likely Republicans will impeach Biden, including 22% who think impeachment is Very Likely. Forty-two percent (42%) don’t think Republicans are likely to impeach Biden, including 10% who say it’s Not At All Likely, while another 12% are not sure,” the firm noted.

In addition to half of those surveyed supporting Biden’s impeachment, the Rasmussen Reports’ daily poll showed just 41% approved of Biden’s leadership as president.

The figure included 47% who strongly disapproved. In contrast, 20% strongly approved of his leadership.

Earlier this month, House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) said that anything is “on the table” if Republicans overtake the House following the November midterm elections, including impeaching Biden. The Daily Wire previously reported:
“Anything is on the table when we are in the majority,” Stefanik said of impeachment, JustTheNews reported.

“But what I believe we should focus on is conducting oversight and making sure that we’re passing legislation to secure the border once and for all,” she added. “The policies of the previous administration under President Trump were working.”

Stefanik’s remark came in reaction to Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) opening the door to the possibility of impeaching Biden, noting there are “multiple grounds to consider” on the matter, foremost the chaos at the southern border.

“If we take the House, which I said is overwhelmingly likely, then I think we will see serious investigations of the Biden administration,” Cruz said on an episode of “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” according to The Hill.

“I do think there’s a chance of that,” the Republican continued, noting that Democrats have already “weaponized impeachment” with former President Donald Trump.

In September 2021, Ohio Republican Rep. Bob Gibbs introduced three articles of impeachment against Biden, noting the president’s failure regarding Afghanistan, the border, and the federal eviction moratorium.

“President Biden continues to disregard his constitutional duties and boundaries. I believe conducting a sober, evidence-based discussion regarding impeachment is warranted,” he wrote to fellow members of Congress in a letter.

Here's the Rasmussen poll, it's pay for view

I'm sorry, but firstly was a survey of 1000 people, seriously? In a country the size of the US? Secondly it's Daily Wire which has had issues with reliability and verification of its stories in the past. Lastly it seems the justification of impeachment in this 'survey' was his ordering/handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, as negotiated by the previous President, presumably under the relevant 'High Crimes a Misdemeanors' clause of Section 2 of the US Constitution.

Sorry but if this is correct and taken literally it would mean every President of the United States could or should be impeached on the basis of any battlefield reversal or foreign policy failure deemed serious enough to offend Congress. Even if his or her role was just limited to ordering the initiative (whatever it was) and not directly over-sighting/controlling/organizing the specific details? Is that what your suggesting? Every President of the United States has automatically committed a crime or misdemeanor every time something goes wrong? No overt act or intention required" Just ordering X and having X go blow up in their faces?

Cause, it seems to me to be an impossibly high bar your expecting President's to jump! Inf act as I am aware NO Presidential Administration in US History could reach it! They've all had the Foreign Policy disasters or other bungles on their watch. Alternately are you suggesting that only Democrat Presidents should be be held to that level of accountability?

So true. I know maybe two true conservatives in the sense they are fiscal conservatives and foreign policy conservatives. On social issues they are live and let live as any conservative should be. I get along with them just fine. However, it seems today that all I see are Christian "Conservatives", Evangelical "Conservatives", and Law & Order (Authoritarian) "Conservatives". These I do not get along with at all as they are plainly dangerous to society as a whole.

I put this news item in this thread because it seems to be more about McConnell showing that he has re-evaluated the political calculus than it is about the events of 1/6 and the crimes and punishment of the insurrectionist delusional Trumpist pawns.

Surprise! Tucker Carlson Draws the Most Democratic Viewers in Key Demo, Even Topping Rachel Maddow

There is an entire cottage industry within media dedicated to disseminating Tucker Carlson’s nightly Fox News musings to presumably liberal audiences who may not be tuning in to hear what the leading conservative voice is telling his large following. But recent data from Nielsen MRI Fusion suggests those nightly dispatches may not be necessary: In October, the most recent month for which data is available, Carlson’s 9 p.m. ET program was the top cable news show among Democrats in the advertiser-coveted age range of 25-54.

The Nielsen MRI Fusion numbers reveal that in October, Fox News unsurprisingly got the majority of the audience of self-proclaimed Republicans, with 69% of them overall tuning into total-day programming and 73% of them in the demo tuning into primetime programming. CNN and MSNBC split the remaining conservatives with totals in the low double-digit percentages. Fox News also commanded the largest number of independents in the key news demo during primetime and total-day hours: 55% of those 25-54 watched the network in primetime, compared to CNN’s 23% and MSNBC’s 22%. During total-day hours, 58% of independents in the demo watch Fox News, 18% chose MSNBC and 25% selected CNN.

More surprising are the stats about Carlson and Fox News’ pull with self-proclaimed Democrats. Of those demo-aged viewers surveyed who identified as Democrats, 39% chose Fox News, 31% chose MSNBC and 30% chose CNN for programming from 8 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET. In total-day viewership, Fox News grabbed 42% of Democrats aged 25-54, CNN nabbed 33% and MSNBC got 25%.

Carlson was top among Democrats in the demo across all of cable news that month and ranked third place among Dems in total viewership, too. Of the top four programs among Democrats in total viewers, Fox News had three: “The Five,” “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and “Hannity.” The top spot in total viewers went to MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

These numbers only account for October but reveal that Fox News’ and Carlson’s sizable audiences are not that easy to define. Consider Carlson’s ratings that month. In October, Carlson’s show was the top-rated program in the demo across all of cable news and was the second highest-rated show overall, coming in only behind Fox News’ late-afternoon panel show “The Five.” In total average viewers, he netted 3.081 million viewers and in the demo, he secured 483,000. For the entire year of 2021, “Tucker Carlson Tonight” was the highest-rated program in cable news overall, bringing in an average of 3.214 million total viewers with 535,000 in the demo.

Earlier Tuesday, Nielsen released January’s ratings, which also provided a big win to Fox News. The network hit the milestone of becoming the top-rated cable news channel for 20 straight years.

Not calling the results of the poll into question.

My question is who watches TV?

Recent article, many that say the say the same

While most people would say 2020 was one of the worst years on record, the same might not be said by cable news executives. All the pandemic turmoil and election strife of 2020 saw audiences glued to cable news channels, leading to a surge in viewership.

For example, 2020 daily viewership for Fox News was up 40.3% from 2019 numbers, according to Nielsen data analyzed by Bloomberg Intelligence. Another standout example: CNN saw 2020 daily viewership up a staggering 79.8% for the year.

But 2021 saw a major reversal in the viewership fortunes of the major cable news networks. Check out how steeply daily viewership dropped across all major cable news channels in 2021 compared to 2020:
                      • Fox Business: -47.5%
                      • CNN: -40.5%
                      • Fox News: -34.6%
                      • MSNBC: -29.7%
                      • CNBC: -19.0%

The only cable news network that saw itself add daily viewers in 2021 compared with 2020 was fledgling network Newsmax TV, which saw its daily viewership increase 32.4%. But even Newsmax took a major hit when comparing the last quarter of 2021 to the last quarter of 2020: Q4 viewership numbers tumbled 27.3%.

So, what’s to blame for the declining viewership numbers? Burnout could have a lot to do with it. There’s only so much unrelenting negative news people can take. Especially when things don’t seem to be getting much better, it’s sometimes just easier to tune out.

Yet, there may be hope in the future for the cable news networks. With the midterm elections coming up in the latter half of 2022, it’s likely a highly polarized America will return to their ideological news networks of choice to keep abreast of what is sure to be one of the most contentious midterms in recent memory.
Most of the people I know don't watch TV news or broadcast TV at all

Are we going to need a different standard for deciding the pulse of the electorate in the digital age? 50 years ago we went of major newspapers and magazine sales, Now its TV viewership, ANd TV is shedding viewers like a Lab sheds hair

I get my news by checking about 5 different newspapers/news sites and listening to NPR.
