My dad gave all my friends dad permission to spank me in advance of any misbehaving I might do. :D

Not true. The porn, in hard copy format of course, fit pretty neatly between whatever textbook you were pretending to be studying. Somehow, the computer screen will never ever really match up to glossy print for the full effect.

Moving pictures on computer screens = progressively jaded imagination = brain dead generation

          With spectacles. And penis envy.

I actually grew up with a healthy dose of both (print and screen .... not spectacles and penis envy). But 25 years later I can still recall a few of my much-dog-eared print favorites. Nada for any specific/particular moving screen competition.

When I were lad, teachers weren't allowed to hit us..... with their hand. Hitting us with a stick was perfectly acceptable though.

My stepdad always tells us stories of how when he was a kid back in South Africa they were always going to the headmaster's office to receive "six of the best" and how his father would tell him to go to the closet and pick which color belt he wanted to be smacked with.

That, and sometimes his father would tell him and his brothers to go out and find the stick they would get smacked with. He'd send them back to get another one if they came back with a stick that was too small.

Discipline back then was different, I'll tell you...

Abusing Yellow is meant to be a labor of love, not something you sell to the highest bidder.

Yeah! And there was this Sanskrit sir of ours who would actually borrow our wooden rulers to whack us with ..... most of the time breaking it in the bargain. Our principal was much better. If and when we were to be caned, he would offer us a choice of canes of different gauges with which we would like to get our three whacks on the backs of our calves .... trousers rolled up, socks down. The thin ones stung the worst .... and left a wheal that would take a couple of weeks to completely disappear.

Hell, back in Korea, when I was in the first grade, my teacher hit me and I went home and told my mom and she hit me too because she said I must've done something wrong to be punished by the teacher......

Throwing chalk board dusters at dozy pupils was a national sport for teachers. Being late for school was "six of the best" on one hand. I'm just grateful that I wasn't around in Rustybattleship time where the cat 'o nine tails and keel hauling for spelling mistakes was the norm.

Got backhanded by the teacher once for messing with an electrical setup in shop class... got into plenty of fights where the adult supervisors joined the spectators and cheered us on.

I was also pardoned by a principal when I brought a homemade "bomb" to school - M-80 clone. He saw something in me. I went on to what I hope was valuable service to my country. Today, that bomb episode would have landed me in jail. It wasn't just discipline and punishment, it was the power of discretion, when applicable.
