  • American Military Music?

Can anyone recommend me some good marches and military music of American origin? I've listened to some Russian military music, and I can say its pretty damn fine, what about the other side of the coin?

I've heard Battle Hymn of the Republic but that's about it

    Anything by John Philip Sousa

I always liked When Johnie Comes Marching Home. The Marine Corps Hymn (From the Halls of...), Stars and Stripes Forever, Navy Hymn Eternal Father, Army Hymn of the Republic is good, Off into the wild blue yonder for the USAF. That is all classic Old School. I like some of the new music used in the recruiting ads, particularly USNs use of Godsmack.

AFAIK, When Johnny Comes Marching Home is originally Irish, but adopted by both sides of the ACW. When Johnny Comes Marching Home and Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye are almost polar opposites.

A similar but reverse thing happened to the Ballad of the Green Beret. Freddy Quinn & Heidi Bruhl covered it in a German version but making it an Anti-War Song.
