Colonel David Hackworth.....

I recently had the opportunity to re-read the book. "About Face" by Col. Hackworth and I was always meaning to ask the experts on this board about him.

Was he really the "best battalion CO in Vietnam" as he quoted General Abrams as saying he was or was he just a screw up that deserved the treatment he got from the army?

I read About Face several years ago, and have managed to forget most of it (that's one good thing about getting old; now I can read it again and be entertained all over again!); most recently, I read Hazardous Duty. I can't comment on your question, because I am neither a military professional, nor an expert. However, he does seem to be a good writer.
