  • Best Bars, Eating Establisments by major Military Installations

Teh whole Foreign Food thread reminded me of a thread I meant to start ages ago. This is for all the TDY'ers out there like myself who are always on the road. We need to list the best bars etc at the various spots we are familiar with. Here is some spots I know to be VERY good.

    Camp Shelby MS:

Donanelles Bar and Grill. Little hole in the wall spot on HWY 49 South just outside North Gate at Camp Shelbly. Your Steak comes on a paper plate and your beer comes in a can but it is fantastic.

Lethas Barbecue on HWY 98 out of Hattiesburg MS heading towards Columbia, again little whole in wall spot but its just simply amazing!!!!

Endzone Bar and Grill, college bar, always has a good crowd and a good atmosphere. Across the 49 from the USM Stadium. Their Gravy Cheese Fries are awesome.

    Ft Bragg NC

Zorbas Gyro on a Spit. Just outside Reilly gate on the left. I just love Gyros ;) For our UK viewers a Gyro is as close as you will get to a Donner Kebab in the US.

Itz Sports Bar. Just a thoroughly good bar.

The Ugly Stick Saloon, on Raford Road off of All American. Can get a bit rowdy but I like it ;)

There is a real good Mexican just outside Yadkin Gate on the right but I cannot for teh life of me remember teh name of it!!!!.

    29 Palms MCAGCC CA

Stumps Bar and Grill. Love the place.

    Ribco, great Ribs and steaks.

No neeed to give directions to either these places as if you are at 29 Palms you will find them lol.

    Ft Indiantown Gap PA

Only been up here a week but have found one phenomenal spot.

Moose's LZ. On Fisher Ave just outside the base. Great Burgers, huge selection of beers and some of the hottest little bartenders and waitresses I have ever seen ;)

    Yuma Proving Ground/MCAS Yuma AZ

Burgers and Beer. Of South 4th Avenue. Name says it all.

The is actually a LOT of good eating establisments in Yuma which may surprise some folks!!!!

Showcase Bar, again on South 4th Avenue across from the Clarion Hotel. Main hangout of the YPG gunners and the Rough Riders Motorcycle Club, which are pretty much one and the same!!!!!

Well thats enough from me for now. But cant wait to here what others have to share.

    Regards

I can help you if you ever TDY to Israel...
Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Abusing Yellow is meant to be a labor of love, not something you sell to the highest bidder.

      Ah! Chow time at Bragg!

Years ago IIRC, there used to be Chasons BBQ out off 210 or 401. SE of Simmons and this side of the river. I looked up Chasons on google and there is a place called fred chasons grandsons just off chickenfoot drive down in hope mills. I guess I could be recalling the location wrong or they simply relocated, but it used to have the biggest buffet I have ever seen and the only one that actually put crab legs and steak out on the buffet. The sweet tea was refreshing and you drank it out of a big mason jar. The BBQ was killer as well, heck, everything was great.

We used hit it everytime we came back from the field or off deployment. They would put together tables (about 30 or 40 ft long) to accomodate our whole plattoon. Great place, lots of good times there.

Have you been there or got any history on it?

        Old Plantation

The Old Plantation in Medicine Park outside Lawton serves a mean, mean steak. At least once upon a time they did.

2 lem chicken in Comayagua Honduras! Near what used to be called Palmerola AB, I think its soto cano now. We used to get a whole grilled chicken for 2 lempira. Something to eat on the return bus ride to base. When you've been partying and drinking(and other activities) in CA, thats the best tasting chicken in the world.:)

Don't know if its still there, but what great times!
