  • A-levels for RAF

Hi guys, I'm in the process of choosing my A-level subjects, before applying to the RAF as an officer, Pilot primarily.

I'm looking at doing Maths with mechanics, (geared towards motion, velocity, physics etc), 20th Century History, Physics and one easier, lighter subject to drop after AS level.

I'd be really grateful for any advice from those of you who have been there and done it, cheers, T44

If you can afford it get some static wing flying lessons in. Health and eye sight are high on the list also. Hundreds apply few make it to the 2nd phase. Ist being the interview, so try and get some tips. Good luck..hope you do well:)

Well ive got about 6hrs with the cadets but PPL is a bit out of the budget at the moment i think. What sort of stuff is asked in the interview?

C/A, I was thinking a bit more specifically, what would be looked upon favourably, are there any to avoid or any that are absolutely necessary?

        cheers

One question I am sure they will ask is "Why should the RAF invest £10m in your training?"..The questions is easy but the answers are not. What benefit are you to them? Why you and not another candidate? What commitment can you give them?..that I'm sure is just for starters;)

Brush up on 'Internal Combustion Engines' (Fundamentals of how an engine works), the focus on 'Gas Turbines'/Jet Engines.

Dexterity is something you have to be good at, and also multi-skilling (very quickly).

Thanks guys, and I'll be definitely buying that DVD. Do the subjects I've said sound ok? Are there any ways in which to improve multi-skilling? Cheers

Do you drive? If so get someone to get in the passenger seat, and ask you certain questions as you are driving i.e. what was the colour of the third car that has just passed, what was the registration number of the car behind, things like that. At the same time, you give a running commentary on what you are doing etc.
