Hmm, I was thinking that with the smooth grips and lack of front strap checkering would in fact give the opposite experience. From pics online it seems that the grip safety does not have the memory grooves that my SR1911 has, which would have made it even more "pointy". I wonder if the machining is a bit on the aggressive side.

How do you line the overal ergonomics thought, apart from this? I like the single stack design, the grip angle and the trigger, especially compared to double stacks like Sigs and Glocks.

Your RIA setup is pretty similar to my SR1911, the only thing that protrudes while shooting is the safety, which is a good thing as you can rest your thumb on it. Compared to that the Sig seems to be have way too many buttons, knobs and whatnot.

I have Novak sights. One reason I waited to buy the Tac model is the sights. I think the front sight on the GI model is machined onto the slide but the Tac model has dovetailed front sight.

Anyways, I finally had time to go to the range. I put 50 rounds through the 1911 just to function test. It's flawless. Not a single problem of any kind. The only problem was the shooter. He's a terrible shot. The gun is very accurate, but I am hit and miss. I brought my Sig P220 just to compare. Here's what I have noticed:

    1. P220 is way lighter
    2. There are too many protruding angles on the 1911
    3. I need high contrast sights on the 1911

Bluesman already said he was using #6 or #8 birdshot for home defense. He said he wanted the ability to shoot slugs as well and curiosity got the better of me.

I like the barrel of the 500 thunder ranch for home defense. If someone is stupid enough to break into your home and lucky enough to survive the shells, you can easily break bones, bash his skull in, bust through doors etc. I would say that the sound of a 12 Gauge racking coupled with a laser on ones chest would be an ultimate mind changer.

What do you have in mind for the slugs?

Along with my M1 Garand (a beautful piece; dalem got to shoot it), I just got two new guns last week: a Springfield Armory XDm-9 Compact (going to carry it when I'm very familiar with it) and a Mossberg 500 Persuador tactical shotgun for castle defense (either #6 or #8 birdshot).

NOW then...I need to start larding on the accessories. Probably going to carry the pistol concealed, so a good inside the waistband back rig, and I may see if I like a laser inside the guide rod. That will probably take care of that.

But the shottie...I'm going for Robo-gun, here. Flashlight inside the foregrip is a must-have. Sling/bandolier combo, a rifled barrel for slugs plus a sight of some flavor (open for your suggestions), satellite radio, leather seats and a moonroof.

I went with the Mossberg because I want a multi-purpose shotgun that I can convert to any use without gunsmithing experience. Seriously, what y'all think may be useful? I'm thinking of some kind of conversion stocks, so I can take it into the field for birds, or to the range for clays.
