Just pointing out the IS no longer such a thing as a "strike eagle" the "strike" ability is gone..... Either its gone or we are in violation of a couple of arms reduction treaties and the US wouldn't do that now would we?

This news must come as a helluva shock to the Mud Eagle drivers. And their commanders. And ME, actually.

Go back to the docs, and ask 'em whether it's time to up your dosage.

Strike is long range delivery of air to ground weapons, not just the nuclear B61. It (and most of the other planes in our arsenal) can still drop those too if needed.

The still have the air to ground capability they are no longer designated strike eagles however as per treaty they are only "capable" of using conventional weapons now. Its been redesignated. This is per treaty and we would never violate those. People Realize that the F-15e's air to ground accuracy may be upgraded with this new tech however it is no longer a strike eagle m'kay.

Whatever happened to "not a pound for air to ground?"

COMPROMISE is what happened. 'Not a pound for air to ground' was the original concept, and it was adhered to faithfully, so much so that the F-15 is undefeated in air-to-air combat. NOT ONE has ever been shot down by another airplane, while racking up a score of 100+ enemy aircraft. Impressive.

However, budgets being holy like they are, when it came time to justify further acquisition of the world's greatest fighter, the green eyeshades started asking: 'Who is the intended enemy? Why do we need all these fighter wings, whose only role is air superiority, when we already HAVE it, in almost any conceivable scenario? What we need are more bomb trucks!' (Sound familiar? It should, and that's why I expect we're going to have F/A-22s in various flavors. They've already thought up an EW/SIGINT collection version, for God's sake.)

And that's how we now have the world's best strike airplane. For once, it wasn't a BAD compromise, and we actually got something so dam' good, it isn't a 'settled for' thang, it's a full-fledged war-winner.

You've still lost me...and I suspect a few others as well.
First all, some sources would be excellent. Especially exactly which treaty you are referring to.

Second, the F-15E Strike Eagle is a tactical ground support aircraft that carries conventional weapons. This is what it was designed for, built and used for. First, last and always.

                      By saying:
however as per treaty they are only "capable" of using conventional weapons now.
you are implying that at some point it carried - or was intended to carry - "special" weapons, like tactical nukes. It didn't. That was never it's mission. It certainly can CARRY them, but what does that have to do with the name "Strike" Eagle?

Please clarify your remarks. But before you do, go to this link and read it over.

Supporting or defending Donald Trump is such an unforgivable moral failing that it calls every bit of your judgement and character into question. Nothing about you should be trusted if you can look at this man and find redeemable value

Thats interesting, I guess the U.S Airforce is calling them by the wrong name.

Please note this at the bottom of the infosheet:
"Armament: One 20mm multibarrel gun mounted internally with 500 rounds of ammunition. Four AIM-7F/M Sparrow missiles and four AIM-9L/M Sidewinder missiles, or eight AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. Any air-to-surface weapon in the Air Force inventory (nuclear and conventional) "
