  • Russian Jet Maker Promises Stealthy Aircraft

    http://staging.defensenews.com/story...33473&C=airwar

This is actually a little old, but I haven't seen it posted up here and I would like to know what you, members of WAB, think. Russia has promised to make stealthy aircraft and there is no doubt in the world that other countries will want to buy them, including those that are hostile to the U.S.A.. Could you imagine China, North Korea, Iran, Lebonon, Syria, Afghanistan, etc... with stealth fighters? I can and its not a pleasant sight.

Uh, I bet this is a piece of B.S. They haven't even created a first-generation stealth fighter and they expect to compete with the Raptor? What a joke. And even if they do, if you seen the specifications and drawings for the PAK-FA, it looks like a Raptor with some Russian features. Talk about being origional.

Well its beyond doubt the Russians have had Stealth Technology up sleeve over the years. They just won't make it public. If Stealth is the order of the day, they'll definitely have it. Then again back in the day a lil known “MiG 15” popped outta the skies over Korea and shocked US Sabre pilots. Who knows now, if the US invades North Korea and they have Stealth MiGs, Raptor pilots wont know what they’re up against

why would they spent tons of BUCKS on a such an 'advanced' 'fighter' like F117? :)

muhaha! keep on saying, that Su27++ and Mig29 look like F15 with the 'made in Russia' labels! :)

So far Russian/Soviet engineers were very efficient in R&D activities. Everything they have done they did with LOWEST cost and FASTEST time.... it is not their fault that they always had less resources for their projects than their counterparts.... the resources were limited due to economy not abilities of those engineers. That is why they DID surprise the world many many times. I don't know if this is really sustainable now when average year of a worker in the MIG aircraft plants is closing to 47..... Lets see

Of course, it always helps if you have a very nice Rolls-Royce engine under the hood of your MiG-15 hotrod. Otherwise, you have to fall back on the jet engines available from Soviet technology in the late 40's / early 50's and end up with a MiG-9 instead. ;)

Having said that, it was Soviet research that was used to develop American stealth technology.
Too bad the Sovs didn't have the money or the industry to take advantage of their ****in's hard work.

To use it as a light stealth bomber to kill radars and infrastructure in the 1st wave. Just as USA does.

                1) Who knows, it might help one day.
                2) Nah, the MiG-29 looks more like a F-18. The Su-27 looks a bit like the F-15 but not really that much.

hehe, I even heard in a discovery-channel-like TV program, that ~20 years ago, in the USSR tests on stealth capabilities, mostly from the PoV of RAM were conducted.

Then with the 'help' of the counter-intelligence service the research papers were handed over to the US, but one phrase was removed from the report.
The phrase was like: due to the obvious drawbacks of this approach/technology, cancel the further research.

That was around the time, the requirements for F117 were about to be issued, but no R&D started. So, the US used the technology from the waste bin for one of it's most advanced (read: expensive :) ) planes.

                  hmmm....

But the Rolls-Royce engined Mig-15 hotrod beat the Rolls-Royce engined F-86 hotrod :)

Right now the Sovs are wooing India for financial and technical support for their Stealth projects and they'll have it, perhaps the IAF needs stealths as much as them. I'm pretty sure myself Indian Engineers will excel in stealth fields in the future....

Sure, but take away that Western-designed engine in the MiG and what do you have? ;)

In other words, the Soviets made one humdinger of an airframe. Props for that.

But they couldn't beat the living sh!t out of their captured German scientists fast enough to build a decent engine for it.

the obvious reason for that is, that the majority of german scientists were captured by the US :) nothing more, nothing less

Either way, theres bound to be some secret, cold Stealth Russian plane out there already, we all know that.

Like the moment a new American jet is stealing the hearts of everyone, suddenly it finds itself in the crosshairs of some new hotshot Mig

                            stealth fields??

India does not have deep pockets like the US. In India every penny allocated by the govt is tracked by CAG report and so far we havent seen any substantial raise for any 5th Gen fighters.

FYI...I have a simple question... What is stealth? Is it something like the cloak they use in harry potter movies? ;)
A grain of wheat eclipsed the sun of Adam !!

Stealth is actively reducing the size of the radar signature of the aircraft as it is
Stealth can be applied in different ways..These are just a few.

                              * RAM- Radar Absorbant Material (normally covering the airframe wings etc.) This composite material absorbs an amount of radar waves instead of them bouncing off the plane in this case and revealing the total radar signature to its source. Giving the plane a much reduced radar signature.

*Reduced Cross section- Many stealthy type planes avoid long or large flat edges (perfect for radar detection) by avoiding flat sharp edges with rounded edges and faciting around the largest most reflective and sharp surfaces that intern bounce the signature like a reflection in a mirror back to its source allowing it to be tracked just as an airliner is by ground control.

This is just to give you an idea. There are many online articles about stealth design. But like everthing else on the net some are questionable. I hope this helps out.
