  • Russia to Showcase T-95 a 55 ton New Generation Main battle Tank in Mid 2010

Russia will be soon showcasing a new generation Main battle tank in mid of 2010, Known has “Item 195″ and the T-95, and this new model has been under development for many years. Details still remain classified. It has been in developed at Uralvagonzavod, where it will also be mass-produced. Russia will become the first country to unveil a fifth-generation tank this tank is expected to surpass all of its predecessors and rivals.Despite the secrecy surrounding the T-95, some information has been leaked. It appears that the new tank will weigh about 55 metric tons and that it will have a remote-controlled turret with 152-mm cannon capable of firing conventional rounds and guided missiles. T-95 is armed with 135 mm gun with a smooth barrel. Russian tanks commonly used 125 mm tank gun west of 120 mm. Russians claim that more guns will achieve higher muzzle velocity and ensures a higher likelihood of puncture armor of all modern tanks. Vehicle dimensions are comparable with the known dimensions of battle tanks T-72 T-80 and T-90. However, the design of the tank T-95 is considered revolutionary. All the main weapons are mounted on a rotating turret unmanned. This requires a fully automatic charging system. Is a three-member crew of the tank? The driver, gunner and commander are installed in a specially armored space in front of the hull. Space is separated from the revolving tower and an ammunition compartment. Crew protection on the tank will be emphasized to a far greater degree than ever before in any Russian tank designs. The level of crew protection should ensure its survival when the tank is hit by any anti-tank munitions from any aspect or angle, thanks to the crew placement in a unitary armored pod inside the hull. A unique drivetrain suspension system is being tested on this tank that to a certain extent extinguishes the hull vibrations and stabilizes its position. Construction of the tank is known for its low silhouette which makes the T-95 tank on the battlefield less vulnerable.

    Features

    -Diesel-electric propulsion
    -135mm gun
-360° sensors and ECM and network-capability
    -pro-active electric reactive armor
    -Weight > 55 tonnes
    -ceramics&fiber armor instead of steel
-virtual reality for the driver and gunner
-only two guys are sufficient to man it
-autoloader for three different types of ammo

I'll believe it when it rolls out of the factory and enters service.

Thanks for the post about this proposed new Russian MBT NJS21.
I guess the Russia Army would be in a mess with the amount of tank types it has in its inventory T-72, T-80, T-90 etc.............
Going by the CGI picture provided of the so-called new MBT - it looks like it will have the same problem most Soviet/Russian MBT have had - a very limited depression of its main gun!
It does not surprise me that there has been some information leaked!
It is ironic after the Soviet regime, which was so tight and effective with its want and ability to keep some of their weapons systems so mysterious for up to a decade, that the 'so-called' new Russian system allows these leaks on such a regular basis. I think (like that of the openness about its Suhkoi T-50 fighter) this is part of the new Russian business plan of getting potential partners/customers all excited early to gain financial stimulation for these type of big ticket items, as well as foreign orders flowing early - as the Russian's can honestly really afford such programs by themselves - regardless of all the big talk of Putin!
I wonder how it will go gaining foreign order, with its new 135mm gun?
Any new customer who previously operated 125mm or 120mm gun armed tanks are also going to have to change its ammo inventory in the process!
I guess if it really as good a MBT as the Russian 'will say' that it is - the PLA will purchase it (or more likely copy it!):))

        It's been canceled:

        Ares Homepage

On April 5 the Russian government discussed the program for the development of the national defense industry for 2011-2020. The Prime Minister Vladimir Putin appealed to the military to define what weapons they really need and for what tasks. He stated that 40% of defense R&D programs don’t result in anything representing just a waste of resources.

The military was quick to respond. Two days later deputy defense minister and chief of armaments Vladimir Popovkin announced that a number of programs for development of new armor and artillery weapons will be cancelled. The main victim is the mysterious Object 195 program that was aimed to develop a new generation main battle tank to replace existing T-80 and T-90 tanks in the Russian Army. The new tank also dubbed T-95 has been developed by Nizhny Tagil Uralvagonzavod armor manufacturer in complete secrecy for more than 15 years. Popovkin said the military will focus on modernization of the T-90 instead.

Among other cancelled development programs are the 152 mm Koalitziya-SV self-propelled double-barrel artillery system, BMD-4 airborne combat vehicle, 125 mm Sprut-SD self-propelled anti-tank gun and BMPT tank support combat vehicle. All these programs were in the phase of prototype testing. Popovkin said these weapons hadn’t been included in the defense procurement program, but the government will reimburse the designers for their development expenses.

The Russians had two designs competing for the future MBT - T - 95 and Chiorny Oreiol ( Black Eagle). The photo pasted in this link seems to be that of Chiorny Oreiol and not the T-95. Seems the Chiorny Oreiol won the day?!

Black Eagle also got canceled. Looks like the Chinese don't have to bother about updating the ZTZ-96s for their new Indian threat (because that's how it works out; Tibet is tank country once you get over the Himalayas)?

MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian military has denied the existence of a new-generation main battle tank (MBT) based on T-80 design and featuring explosive reactive armor and a box-shaped turret.

The Russian media has recently resumed discussion of the secret tank, dubbed Black Eagle, which was developed by the Omsk Transmash design bureau and whose pictures were shown in several publications and on the Internet.

"There was no such project...and those 20-year-old pictures show a mock-up of a futuristic tank which remained just a product of someone's imagination," Col. Vladimir Voitov, head of research at the Main Directorate of the Armored Troops, said in an interview with the Echo Moskvy radio on Saturday.

He added that he was aware of a prototype of an experimental tank, but insisted that 'the turret of the vehicle did not have anything inside."

According to the Russian media, an early prototype of the Black Eagle was shown at an arms exposition in Siberia, in June 1999. It appeared to be based on a lengthened T-80U hull, and to have very thick front armor and new-generation Kaktus explosive reactive armor.

However, recent reports in open sources suggest that the Black Eagle program has been halted due to the acceptance of the T-90, built by the Uralvagonzavod plant, into the Russian military in the mid-1990s.

In addition, Russia has reportedly opted for Uralvagonzavod as the developer and manufacturer of a new-generation MBT, which will most likely have a designation as T-95.

Sergei Mayev, head of the Federal Service for Defense Contracts (Rosoboronzakaz) told a news conference in July 2008 that the Russian Armed Forces would start receiving new-generation tanks superior to the T-90 main battle tank after 2010.

The new tank will feature better firepower, maneuverability, electronics and armor protection than the T-90 MBT.

Its speed will increase from 30-50 kph to 50-65 kph (19-31 mph to 31-40 mph).

According to some sources, the new tank may be equipped with a 152-mm smoothbore gun capable of firing guided missiles with a range of 6,000-7,000 meters.

In comparison, the T-90 MBT has a 125-mm 2A46M smoothbore gun, which can fire AT-11 Sniper anti-tank guided missiles with a range of 4,000 meters.
