Or they could just reverse engineer the M-16s or M-4s themselves. The Pashtuns do it all the time.

                    • Hi everyone! I'm newcomer. And sorry for my poor English. I have some pics about my country's army and i want to share them to you.

                      Source: Hình

A typical PAVN "333" infantry squad. Each squad has 9 men, divided to 3 teams. Each team has 3 men. This system isn't only for military role but also variety of daily works and other non-fighting roles.

This soldier is folding his summer blanket and mosquito net. In PAVN, each soldier must do it daily. His blanket and mosquito net must at least look like this one. If not, he would fold it again at 12h to 14h (during summer) and 00h to 02h (during winter).

An entire platoon had been punished because of messy blanket and mosquito net folding.

Bathing. Open bathing is very common in PAVN even in winter. Although soldiers may did it once a week during that season, especially those who garrisoning in northenmost provinces.

Washing. Sunday is a good day to did it.

Drying rack. This rack is intended for one platoon. Below it is drying rack for combat boots.

Combat boots, stocks and a foldable willow. This willow has a simple foldable metal frame and a removable canvas cover.

Playing poker is a common game in every PAVN units, along with traditional Vietnamese "Chắn" (A set of 120 long rectangular cards) and some sports. However gambling is banned. Detected gamblers would be temporary jailed or even worse.

Guitar and songs are a common mean of entertainment. Experienced soldiers teach newbies. Newbies teach rookies. However there're very few good guitarists could perform variety of songs. And also very few good singers, most of PAVN soldiers are drakes perform music disasters.

Soldiers love dogs, cats and birds (sometime turtles). Dog (not attack dog) is the most common and favored domestic animal in PAVN units. Many soldiers know how to hunt, trap and feed birds, especially those come from agricultural and mountain areas. Some even could breed good fighting cocks. However many don't know it, only temporary interest, and those poor littles' life could be ruin in their hands.

A traditional Southern Vietnamese game. I don't know it well but the chair is a goal. Many traditional games in Vietnam today were developed in the streets in second half of XX century.

Painting doors. PAVN soldiers could do some civilian jobs. Construction, carpenty, welding, electrical repair, mechanics... Or they would learned to do.

Each unit in PAVN must self-supply itself at least 80% of vegetable and 90% of meat consumption. So each military base maintaining inside it a large VAC system, with many small vegetable field at every suitable areas, some pig and cattle ranches and fish ponds. Border guards and mountain troops breed horses and mule for trainsportation and ridding. Some large unit like infantry divisions have large rice fields.

Vegetable field close to a barracks building.

Barbering. There's no profesional barbershop in PAVN units so a best "barber" in each battalion or company will do it for their comrades. Most barbers' have untrusted skill and could make unaceptable hairstyles. Although there're many heads for them and their skill could be improve over time. In PAVN, if you let your hair too long, "barbering by combat knife (or bayonet, sometime razor)" will slove the problem.

Soldiers' families and friends could visit them in sundays, national and army celebrated days.

A soldiers' living room in a sunday. This is one of the neastest room.

                      Sunset break before dinner.

Writing leters and reading manga (or comic) before sleeping.

                      • A soldier performing hip-hop dance. Today there's many amateur dancers in PAVN. They learned it before become soldiers. Another comrades want to learn it and there's many hip-hop accidents. Fortunately, still no one disabled of die.

Gun cleaning. Most soldiers spend only about 5-10 minutes a day for their guns. Soo lazy.

Soldiers watching news at night from Monday to Friday. Kungpow and Rambow and James Bow in Satuday and Sunday.

Marching exercise: Soldiers' nightmare. Officers' pain.

Field medical training. Each soldier must learn it to take care of himself and his comrades during battle. The funniest lession.

Military policemen: Another soldiers' nightmare. But soldiers are MP's nightmare, too.

Explosive training. Numbers of mines and explosive charges. In this pic are models of 2kg improvised explosive charge and tube charge.

                        Studying. Don't ask me why.

"We are comrades when fighting and companions when... drinking!" - Some PAVN soldiers.

Drinking is one of the best Vietnamese traditions. At least Dionysus' disciples claim that. At least 75% PAVN soldiers can drink before become soldiers. 99.99% can drink after 3 months. 100% can drink after 3,5 months. Drinking is a great way to celebrate your birthday in Vietnam.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

From 2000s, there's many military projects to upgrade PAVN strength and appearance. People talk too much about heavy equipments like S-300, Su-30, Gepard... Now they're know about them very clearly. They now remain only little interesting. So I will tell you those smallers like uniforms, equipments and firearms.

PAVN uniform and equipments are changing. In other words, most of items are still in testing stage. You will see many PAVN uniform types in most recent years. Below is former uniforms.

                                Daily uniforms.

This is an all green K-03, the standard soldiers and NCOs' daily uniform of Land Force and Border Guard from 2003. Of course it isn't too different to the VNW era uniform but with somewhat better design, better material quality.

Air Force - Air Defense (PK-KQ) version's plants colored very dark blue. You would've seen NVA AA gun crew with all green K-03 somewhere but they are of Land Force's Air Defence.

Naval Force version has white and dark blue sailor shirts with black plants.

                                They are three main versions.

You would say: "Too obsolete design!" I can't disclaim that because it's true. But there're many reasons for keeping this obsolete design. Well, it hard to me to explain with my poor English. First of all, it more familiar to people. Vietnamese people alway have unfamiliar feeling with those who wore stripe camouflage uniforms and equiped with numbers of guns and equipments. Not because ARVN or U.S Army during VNW but because Hoolywood action films. Surprise? There's many oldmen, farmers and workers in vietnam still wearing K-03 and its predecessors (Land and PK-KQ versions) and green pitch helmet in their daily works as a common civil clothing. K-03 has its predecessors' familiar feeling toward people.

                                PAVN BDU

PAVN started to use real BDU (not "natural" camo) from 1974. In that time, only Dac Cong fighters. English speaking people call them Combat Sappers but they're not a kind of sappers, only trained to use numbers of explosives and demolition devices as their main weapons alongside firearms. Although this BDU wasn't issued for all Dac Cong units yet. They still nearly full naked, bare feet, wore only thick underplants, with "natural camo" like leaves, mud...

This is K-idontremember, a more recent (80s) version of 1974 BDU. They are very similar to each other, and are K-03 predecessors' modified designs. Although those soldiers wasn't Dac Cong, only infantry. This BDU has various pattems, and intended for some most combat-ready units from infantry to marine. Dac Cong has it own more suitable BDU.

This is the most common BDU for the Land Operation branch of Dac Cong. It designed after many combat experiences in Cambodia in 1979. The K Battlefront (Chiến trường K). Before that time all Land Operation Dac Cong units used 1979 BDU but it hasn't fit for their duty. Today, Dac Cong's BDU still be used. 1979 BDU and it successor version were used for more conventional fighting situations till late 2007.

                                Officer's uniform

Officer's uniform before 1982 is very simple, and you could see them in some VNW documentary films. From 1982, PAVN adopted new design called K-82. There's 4 main versions (color versions):

Land Force's and Border Guard' tan/dark tan version,

                                Navy's white/black version,

PK-KQ's tan/dark tan/very dark blue version like this, and,

                                All white parade version.

Officer's combat uniform is soldier's uniform, the K-03 and BDUs.

I can't find more clear pics about K-82. Damn! There's only those new gay colored K-08 dominating the net.
