  • Andalusia

    Good evening,

Planning to visit Andalusia in a short while. Looking to get a good understanding of its Moorish history through some literature.
Did some searches on Amazon and came up with two books: one written by Richard Fletcher and another by Maria Rosa Menocal => The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain

Haven't bought either one; was looking to see what you think would be the best reference book on the topic ?
    Any guidance would be apperciated

I am more interested more in military and geo-political themes rather than religious and cultural ones

The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain.
This title discounts itself: The Moors inherited the Liber Iudiciorum and simply allowed it to continue, apart from womens right to inherit and womens right to choose a spouse.
Otherwise they simply maintained the status quo.
In the realm of spirit, seek clarity; in the material world, seek utility.

Same could be said of Norman Sicily - Roger ll if I remember correctly, one of the Hautevilles anyway.
